Ministry Assistant: Kids' Community and Pastoral Support

Job Description

The River is seeking a Ministry Assistant to help with the administration of our Kids’ Community program, to provide logistical support to our broader staff team, and to provide administrative and clerical support to our Lead Pastor and Executive Director. This role would be ideal for a detail-oriented person who is happy in the nuts and bolts execution of tasks and enjoys communicating and problem-solving with a positive attitude. The Ministry Assistant reports to both the Children’s Ministry Director and the Executive Director.


Primary Kids’ Community responsibilities:  (approximately 50% of time)

  • Manage volunteer scheduling and send reminders with weekly materials.
  • Prepare Sunday morning supplies and materials, including lessons, activities, and snacks.
  • Proactively manage Kids’ Community supplies, including organization, purchasing, printing/copying, etc. 
  • On Sunday mornings, be present at the church building 8 am-1 pm. Help to set up classrooms, welcome volunteers and families, and be the supervising staff member for one service (may attend worship the other service). 
  • Recruit and schedule childcare workers for special events and be present to get them set up.
  • Support periodic weekend events (such as volunteer training) or seasonal events (such as summer Maker Camp and St. Nick celebration).


Primary general ministry operations responsibilities:  (approximately 50% of time)

  • Event planning and logistical support
  • Logistics and support for retreats, volunteer meetings, and trainings.
  • Coordinate the catering/meals for various church meetings.
  • Office operations
  • Welcome guests and delivery people during the week. Check and sort the mail.
  • Assist in scanning and processing bills and expenses, printing and mailing checks.
  • Serve as a resource to the staff team for technology related questions.
  • Facilitate the communication of information between staff members.
  • Administrative and clerical support for the Lead Pastor and Executive Director
  • Proactively plan meetings in advance of upcoming events (ex: planning meeting for Advent)
  • Help triage emails and respond on behalf of Lead Pastor when possible/appropriate
  • Format documents and prepare for distribution
  • Anticipate problems and challenges to help leaders stay focused on leading the church and staff
  • Other duties as needed - we are a small staff team with emerging needs.


Qualifications:

  • A mature and emotionally healthy Christ­-follower 
  • Strong administrative and communication skills 
  • Project management skills
  • Positive attitude in times of stress; conflict resolution/peacemaking skills 
  • Ability to use software: familiarity with Google Drive (Doc, Sheets) required; willingness to learn additional programs like Planning Center, Slack, Mailchimp, etc.
  • Conviction that the spiritual formation of children is a critical ministry of the church 
  • Experience as a volunteer in children’s ministry helpful but not essential
  • Active support for the values and mission of The River Church Community 


About Kids’ Community 

At The River Church Community we value children as growing disciples of Christ and desire to provide opportunities for them to worship, learn, build relationships, and play. Kids’ Community is our Sunday morning experience for children ages birth through 5th grade. 


Hours and Compensation: 

This position is full time, with at least 15-20 hours of the week dedicated to supporting the Children's Ministry. Sunday will be considered a workday, with commensurate time off during the week (most of our team works Tuesday-Friday). Pay is $22-26 per hour, commensurate with experience.
