The mission above is not one person’s job on staff at Gateway, it is every person’s job. Every employee will assume responsibility to execute the mission as an individual. To help unchurched people (through invitation and volunteer recruitment) become a unified community (through team building and spiritual care) of growing, multiplying (through deeper spiritual investment and training), Christ-followers.

Summary of Position

This Grow Pastor role is responsible for spiritually developing and equipping male leaders and supporting groups (Community and Life Groups) to help spiritually grow our church body. Grow, comprising Life and Community Groups and spiritual growth classes, is the primary ministry focused on spiritual growth and multiplication at Gateway. 


Primary Functions

  • Lead a Group
  • Coach male group leaders (community and life group) – Recruiting, developing, equipping, and supporting leaders who lead groups with the goal of spiritually maturing people along the path from lost to leading. This role is to help disciples make disciples who make disciples (multiplication).
  • Resources, Experiences, & Systems – Use the discipleship-based Life Group Model and Community Group resources to implement transferable systems, resources, and experiences that can easily be passed from one discipleship generation to the next
  • Execute gatherings and events created with Campus Pastor & Grow Director (i.e Alpha, retreats, Leadership Community, etc.)
  • Facilitate and support Grow Classes (variety of spiritual growth classes and a class focused on exploring faith questions - currently we use the Alpha Course). Develop leaders and volunteers for classes 2x a year.
  • Commission male emerging leaders through the Commissioning Journal and next steps in their spiritual growth. 


Secondary Functions

  • Work with the campus grow and connections teams to develop, implement, and support effective connections strategies (Sunday Morning Connections, Community Groups, classes, etc.)
  • General pastoral staff functions, as needed: baptisms, staff on call, pre-marital counseling, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned


Desired Qualifications/Skills

  • Successful track record of discipleship and spiritual multiplication of groups and leaders
  • 3+ years leadership experience in a large organization
  • 3+ years staff/volunteer leadership in a church or parachurch
  • 3+ years’ experience growing in the understanding and practices of Small Group and Discipleship theology and theory
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent: Biblical or theological education preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Not afraid to press into conflict and challenge while shepherding people


Spiritual Criteria

  • Must have an intimate and growing relationship with Christ
  • Must become a commissioned leader at Gateway Church (or be willing to if not currently commissioned)
  • Model standards and expectations of commissioned leaders at Gateway Church


Working Conditions and other information

  • Sunday through Thursday schedule with added responsibilities for holidays and special events as assigned
  • Required attendance at All Staff meetings
  • Easter- all hands-on deck for Saturday/Sunday services and events (See Holiday Policy in the employee handbook for more information)
  • Christmas- all hands-on deck for our Christmas services and events (See Holiday Policy in the employee handbook for more information)
  • Gateway Throwdown - all hands-on deck for Saturday/Sunday services and events
  • Annual All Staff Retreat- dates are subject to change but typically fall sometime in May
  • Annual Leadership huddle- dates are subject to change but typically fall sometime in August
  • Attend all functions that we require of our Commissioned Core (i.e. Leadership Community, etc.)
