Scope:

The Home Church is a vibrant, non-denominational, charismatic congregation in the heart of Silicon Valley with a huge vision to reach our community and to impact our world!  Our desire is that all people would know God, find freedom, discover their purpose, and make a difference in their spheres of influence.

We are looking for a seasoned Worship Pastor or Director to join our Senior Leadership Team (SLT) as a full stakeholder and contributor to the vision, mission, values, and direction of Home Church.  This role is critical for the health and future of the church as an extension of the Senior Pastor to engage the body in the vision and direction.  This person will work closely with the Senior Pastor and SLT to design and implement spirit-led worship gatherings and God-encounters that are participatory and transformational.

Candidates should theologically affirm, and have a personal experience in, the Baptism and Gifts of the Holy Spirit and have a vision for and experience in encouraging others to identify and experience their spiritual giftings.

Reporting Structure and Authority:

·      Reports To: The Senior Pastor with collaborative direction and guidance from the SLT and Eldership.

·      Direct Reports: Operationally, all paid and volunteer staff supporting the Worship and Tech Ministries in relation to the Sunday morning experience and other programs and activities.  There are currently no paid-staff direct-reports that are 100% dedicated to this position.

Leadership, Design, and Implementation of the Worship and Tech Ministries

·      Maintain our existing worship ministries and emphasis, with an objective towards greatly enhancing our spiritual and musical effectiveness.

·      Collaborate with the pastoral team and elders so that the elements of the worship experience are integrated and contribute to the other elements of the services.

·      Introduce songs and worship elements that are sensitive to and supportive of the teaching series and seasons of growth that the congregation is going through.

·      Regularly update the Senior Pastor on all progress and developments in the Worship and Tech Ministries.

·      Preview the upcoming song selections and service flow to staff in our weekly meetings, for coordination and feedback.

Disciple the Congregation in Worship

·      Encourage and lead the congregation into a lifestyle of worship, helping them to become true worshipers throughout the day and throughout their week.

·      Provide the congregation with Sunday morning worship experiences that are Spirit-led, intimate, authentic, musically diverse, and encourage response and action.

·      Lead the congregation in meaningful times of taking communion at least once a month during the Sunday worship experience.

·      Identify, recruit, audition, develop, and mentor multi-generational members to serve within the Worship Ministries.  We especially want to encourage our youth and young adults in their skills and callings.

·      Provide new opportunities and venues to allow for budding worship leaders to be trained and discipled, and to get hands-on ministry experience in a non-threatening environment.

·      Over time and as the Spirit leads, create and support opportunities and venues for other forms of worship expression, including but not limited to adult and kids choirs, drama team, and praise dance team.

Disciple the Sunday Morning Experience Team

·      Provide leadership, pastoral care, and discipleship to the Vocalists, Instrumentalists, and Tech Crew.  Encourage their participation in Life Groups.

·      Encourage high standards of spiritual commitment and musical excellence in all participants.

·      Foster honest, humble, and clear communication, and a strong sense of family and unity, among all team members.

·      Provide instrumental and vocal instruction, guidance, and skills enhancement.

Other Roles & Responsibilities:

·      Be available to occasionally preach, teach, and baptize as the opportunity and need arises.

·      As a licensed minister and critical member of the pastoral staff, an associate pastor should also be available to occasionally officiate a wedding, conduct a funeral, make a hospital visit, provide Biblical guidance, and respond to urgent and crisis situations as the opportunity and need arises.

Practical Tasks

·      Prepare musical arrangements and charts as needed.

·      Provide notes / tutorials to band as needed.

·      Prepare backing tracks as needed.

·      Oversee procurement of all Worship and Tech equipment, supplies, and music.

·      Establish and maintain oversight of the church music library and ensure compliance with copyright laws.

Time Investment

·      Lead the Sunday worship experience on most Sundays, with appreciation for and support for needed time off.

·      Schedule and lead weekly worship team rehearsals, and additional rehearsals as needed.

·      Lead weekly planning meetings and provide decision-making for song selection and other media.

·      Meet weekly with the Senior Pastor for personal discipleship and to discuss and design upcoming worship gatherings.

·      Participate in all weekly staff meetings, possibly monthly Elder meetings, and occasional staff development times.

·      The associate pastor would also need to be available 24/7 for urgencies that may arise, though this is not common.

Essential Qualities:

  • Born-again and Spirit-filled Christ-follower with a vibrant and growing relationship with God.
  • Christian maturity in all areas of life…personal, spiritual and practical.

  • Proactive self-starter that functions well with minimal supervision.
  • Team-player with a “can do” attitude and servant’s heart.
  • The desire to become a long-term integral member of a church family and committed team.
