Worship Leader Job Description

 

JOB TITLE:         Part-Time Contemporary Worship Leader (20-30hrs/wk)

LOCATION:        Hudson, IA  

REPORTS TO:     Lead Pastor

 

SUMMARY

Community Church of Hudson is seeking a Christian musician to develop and deliver the technical and artistic content of our worship services.  Responsibilities include directing a volunteer band, coordinating a cohesive Sunday worship experience, and creating a musical atmosphere which invites the Holy Spirit to move within the congregation.

 

Expectations for the Worship Leader

o  Select songs and other musical elements for contemporary worship services, aligned to the message and intended tone for the service. Week to week, the appropriate selections may vary from high energy to very subdued, but should always stay Christ centered.

o  Collaborate with Pastor to develop a cohesive worship and praise experience.

o  Direct the praise band:

o  Create an atmosphere of excellence

o  Schedule singers

o  Prepare for and conduct effective rehearsals

o  Lead the praise band during service

o  Recruit volunteer singers and musicians. Develop and encourage their musical and spiritual gifts.

o  Complement the worship experience with greetings, prayers, and transitions.

o  Provide leadership for weekly services, Christmas, Easter, weddings, funerals, vacation bible school and other worship events.

o  Manage service elements using Planning Center and ProPresenter. Coordinate tactical execution and support with the church office.

o  Work with technical team volunteers on supporting presentations, recordings and sound elements.

o  Manage the audio visual and worship experience budget. Maintain and inventory technical equipment.

o  Assist in the set-up and tear-down of sound equipment before and after rehearsals and worship events.

 

Qualifications

o  Profess faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior

o  Be aligned with the 4C’s statements of faith, and the Preamble and Article 2 of the Church Constitution

o  Strong lead singing voice

o  Ability to play keyboard, guitar, or percussion (preferred, not required)

o  Able to connect and engage with the congregation during worship

o  A heart for volunteers (recruiting, leading, growing)

o  Clear, effective communication. Strengths in listening and speaking.

o  Passion for ongoing spiritual development (yours and those you lead)

o  Commitment to moral purity

o  Appreciation for rural Iowa

 

Education and Experience

o  Experience in musical arts and other forms of artistic expression

o  Expertise and experience in the use of technical arts including audio, lighting, video

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write routine correspondence. Ability to effectively communicate verbally with church members, vendors, and other employees of the organization, using proper grammar without dialect or slang. Ability to speak effectively before groups.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems efficiently and effectively while maintaining good working relationships.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The building is multi-level with several sets of stairs but is handicap accessible and equipped with an elevator. It is a nonsmoking environment.
