Associate Pastor

POSITION OVERVIEW 

This position reports to our Senior Pastor and works closely with our leadership. The Associate Pastor is a leadership role, initially expected to work with our Senior Pastor in preaching and leading IHBC in adapting the church to attract and disciple the next generation. He will lead churchwide growth efforts and serve as the leading candidate for future Senior Pastor succession.

PURPOSE AND GOAL 

The Associate Pastor partners with the Senior Pastor in prayer, teaching, and equipping believers for ministry (Ephesians 4:12, Acts 6:4, 1 Peter 5:2). He shepherds the church by living a Spirit-led life and guiding others to maturity through biblical leadership and relational engagement. 

QUALIFICATIONS 

Spiritual 

• Models a Christ-centered life in alignment with IHBC doctrine. 

• Demonstrates spiritual maturity and reliance on the Holy Spirit. 

Keeps Scripture central to life and ministry. 

Educational 

Skills 

Master's degree (or equivalent experience) in theology, pastoral ministry, or related field. 

Strong understanding of dispensational theology. 

Capable of clear, engaging biblical preaching and teaching. 

Proficient in pastoral care and counseling; mentoring provided by Senior Pastor. Effective in team leadership, collaboration, and communication. 

Visionary leader with initiative to guide church growth. 

Working knowledge of church operations and ministry systems.

Experience 

Proven effectiveness in previous ministry roles. 

Demonstrated leadership in church growth-through outreach, ministry development, or revitalization. 

Launching or leading new ministries. 

Clear sense of calling to future senior pastoral leadership. 

Responsibilities 

General 

Minister under the guidance of Scripture and IHBC leadership. 

Collaborate with staff, Elder Board, and ministry leaders to set goals, evaluate 

ministries, and support church-wide initiatives. 

Support all ministries in alignment with IHBC's mission. 

Follow policies established by the Leadership Board. 

Specific 

Participate in Sunday services and preach as requested. 

Grow in preaching and teaching excellence with support from the Senior Pastor and Elder Board. 

Oversee and teach the Adult Bible Class as well as equipping others to teach. 

Lead church growth strategy, with emphasis on outreach and engaging the next generation. 

Evaluate ministries and guide adaptations for greater effectiveness. 

Provide pastoral care as needed. 

Serve as a voting member of the Board of Elders.
