Job Description: Houston Chinese Church (HCC) is looking for a nursery coordinator to lead and oversee the nursery ministry for children ranging from birth to age 3. Beginning in 1975, HCC now has English, Mandarin, and Cantonese-speaking congregations, with Sunday attendance around 1000, and total children’s attendance of approximately 150 kids (~40 of which are nursery-age). At HCC, we aim to provide quality care and supervision of children in a secure, nurturing environment where each child will see, hear, and feel the love of Jesus Christ and parents can feel confident their child will receive great care and teaching. Therefore, HCC wants a nursery coordinator who believes that discipleship begins with even the youngest of children.
General Responsibilities:
- Work with Children’s Minister to determine and prepare curriculum for children’s classes
- Order teaching supplies and additional classroom materials, furniture, and toys as needed.
- Maintain a safe and clean environment in nursery rooms and keep materials organized and in place.
- Update database of nursery children’s registration information, classroom lists and sign-in sheets.
- Recruit, train, and supervise paid-caregivers and volunteers in their different roles.
- Schedule regular First Aid training courses for caregivers.
- Oversee scheduling and email communication with paid-caregivers and volunteers.
- Handle other departments’ requests to provide childcare for special events as needed.
- Work with Children’s Minister to submit annual budget for nursery department.
- Welcome and acquaint new Nursery families and visitors.
- Be familiar with and care for nursery children and their families.
- Provide resources for parents (schedule guest speaker lectures, recommend books or videos).
- Recruit church members to lead and serve on the nursery prayer team.
- Other job duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must be a baptized believer of Jesus, and demonstrate integrity, grace, and commitment to HCC.
- Agrees completely with the articles of faith, church constitution, mission and core values of HCC.
- 2+ years previous experience in the teaching field or working with children
- Knowledge of children’s spiritual development and innovative approaches to children’s ministry.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Possess sensitivity to Chinese and Western cultures and values.
- Fluent in English language required; knowledge of Chinese language a plus.
- Experience as parent of young children a plus.
- Undergraduate degree required; specialization in child development or education a plus.
