Overview


Hendersonville First United Methodist Church is seeking a full-time Communication Director. The ideal candidate will passionately create, organize, plan and implement effective communication messages and strategies for and with church and community audiences. The individual will support church and ministry leaders in conveying their vision and communication priorities to appropriate audiences.


Primary Responsibilities

HFUMC Communications and Outreach Coordinator


The HFUMC Communications and Outreach Coordinator is critical to the church’s mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world by enabling and promoting effective internal and external communications and seeking ways to engage and strengthen relationships within the community.


Key responsibilities of the role include:


• Build, implement, and maintain an effective internal communications strategy that keeps all staff, committees, volunteers, and lay leaders informed and coordinated

• Attend all staff and committee meetings to document news and upcoming events

• Guide and direct church staff/lay leaders on how to best communicate and share key events with internal and external audiences

• Identify and act upon opportunities to engage with community partners and leverage their communications channels for broader outreach to the community .

• Continuously explore ways to grow church’s presence in the community through outreach campaigns, strategic partnerships, social media efforts, etc.

• Develop and lead crisis communications plan

• Share big events and successes with district leaders

• Design graphic elements for church services, events, announcements, etc.

• Manage, maintain, and develop content for all communications channels for the church including website, bulletins, marquee, newsletter, social media, HFUMC TVs, etc.

• Ensure consistency in messaging and brand identity through all communications channels

• Schedule livestream and operate cameras during Sunday service

• Conceptualize, shoot, and edit promotional videos for the church


This position requires a high degree of curiosity and initiative. Candidates must be able to work well independently and as part of a collaborative group. They must be Christ-minded and service-oriented. Specific qualifications for this position include:


• Bachelor’s or associate’s degree in communications, public relations, or related field.

• At least one year of professional experience in communications, public relations, or related field (quality internships will be accepted).

• Experience working with the following applications and equipment

• Adobe Creative Suite (or other comparable creative software)

• Web content management

• Video recording equipment and editing software


Other Considerations


This is a full-timed, salaried position with available pension options. Compensation package will be commensurate of past education and leadership experience. The Communication Director reports directly to the Senior Pastor and is accountable to the Staff Parish Relations Committee.
