Job Description

The Building and Grounds Crew, under the direction of Stuart Newby, carry out tasks to ensure that the areas they are responsible for are well maintained.  These areas must be physically maintained in compliance with local building codes. Duties can change from day to day depending on the weather or time sensitive tasks at hand. Specific assignments can also be changed, at a moment’s notice, due to emergencies and unforeseen circumstances. 


The department has become diversified, which means a facility custodian may be asked to work outside on the grounds occasionally and vice a versa.  All members of the crew will be expected to respond when called in for special projects and especially snow removal. 


Many times, through the course of your assignments, confidential and sensitive matters will come before you, thus courtesy, professionalism and of course, confidentiality and trustworthiness are vital. 

 

To achieve the objective of this position, the Buildings and Grounds Crew must:


  • Maintain grounds of all properties, in all seasons. This includes, but is not limited to, grass cutting, raking, hedge trimming, weeding, and shoveling.
  • Keep business offices clean by ensuring the bathrooms, kitchens and conference areas are kept orderly and free of dust. Daily removal of garbage from all offices.
  • Occasionally move office furniture as directed.
  • When assigned to meetings or functions, ensure that setup, cleanup and any special needs are provided. Be visible and available to help whoever is organizing the event. This includes, but is not limited to, functions at the Cathedral, Cathedral House, Diocesan House and Mercer School
  • Report any maintenance issues to your supervisor.
  • Work may encompass properties that are located outside of Garden City. Transportation to these work sites will be provided.
  • Be available to assist in responding immediately to all emergencies, fire alarms, power/heat failures, etc. for all Diocesan properties, during normal business hours and when on campus.
  • Respond to other Buildings and Grounds issues as required.
  • All other duties as assigned.


Salary commensurate with experience but is generally between $15.50 and $17 per hour.
