Position Summary The Children & Youth Ministry Coordinator will provide spiritual leadership and vision for students from childhood to late teens. This is a hands-on, pastoral ministry role focused on building a Christ-centered culture, leading weekly gatherings, mentoring students, and equipping a team of volunteers. We are looking for a leader who is passionate about discipleship and community — someone who doesn’t just run programs, but walks alongside young people as they grow in faith. Key Responsibilities Vision, Leadership & Spiritual Oversight ● Cast and implement a compelling, Christ-centered vision for children & youth ministry. ● Shape a strategy for discipleship, outreach, and leadership development that aligns with the mission of Jericho Road Church. ● Serve as a pastoral leader to students and volunteers, modeling a life of faith, humility, and integrity. ● Teach the Bible regularly and clearly, helping students understand and apply God’s Word to their lives. Weekly Programming & Discipleship ● Plan and lead various weekly youth gatherings (kids, pre-teen, teen) and coordinate youth and children ministry rhythms. ● Create welcoming, fun, and spiritually meaningful experiences that foster faith formation. ● Incorporate media and technology creatively to engage students and enhance ministry impact. ● Organize seasonal events, retreats, service projects, and outreach initiatives. ● Offer spiritual care, mentorship, and accountability to students as they grow in faith and identity. Volunteer Development & Team Building ● Recruit, train, and shepherd a team of adult volunteers who serve with joy and consistency. ● Create a culture of shared leadership, encouragement, and teamwork. ● Identify and develop student leaders, giving them opportunities to serve and lead within the ministry. Parent Partnership & Family Engagement ● Partner with parents as the primary spiritual influencers in their students' lives. ● Communicate regularly with families and provide resources, encouragement, and connection opportunities. ● Be a visible and consistent presence at Sunday gatherings and church-wide events. Community Engagement & Outreach ● Build meaningful relationships with youth and families both inside and outside the church. ● Explore partnerships with local schools, organizations, and/or existing youth ministries to expand community presence. Administration & Staff Collaboration ● Manage youth & young adult ministry communications, scheduling, volunteer onboarding, and safety protocols (Plan to Protect). ● Steward the ministry budget responsibly. ● Participate fully and collaborate with other ministry leaders for aligned church-wide ministry. ● Provide input and support for church events, worship services, and intergenerational ministry initiatives. Qualifications ● A growing, mature relationship with Jesus Christ and a lifestyle that reflects spiritual integrity. ● Agreement with the Jericho Road Church statement of faith, vision, and values. ● Experience in youth or young adult ministry (church, camp, or parachurch setting); leadership experience preferred. ● Passionate about discipling the next generation and building authentic, relational community. ● Strong biblical foundation with ability to teach and communicate Scripture clearly and relevantly. ● A team player with strong interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills. ● Degree in ministry, theology, education, or a related field is preferred (or equivalent experience). Working Environment & Expectations ● Based at Jericho Road Church in Port Alberni, with occasional off-site activities. ● Flexible hours, including regular evenings and weekends. ● Reports directly to the Team of Elders and works collaboratively with church staff, council, and volunteers. ● This position has some flexibility for a couple to serve together, depending on gifting and calling. ● Must complete a Criminal Record Check & Vulnerable Sector Screening. ● Must be currently legally eligible to work in Canada. Salary Range: $47,000 to $53,000 CAD, depending on gifting, training, education and experience.
