The Minister of Music works to facilitate regular, meaningful, and genuine worship of the one true and holy God for every believer and seeker of all generations. The Minister of Music strives to honor the multigenerational and multicultural nature of our church and community. The Minister of Music encourages all of God’s children to live lifestyles of worship that seek to praise God above all else.

Essential Duties

  1. Coordinate with the pastor, all worship services of the church.
  2. Direct congregational singing, the adult choir, the worship/praise team, and the instrumental ensemble.
  3. Create and promote a robust, well-rounded music ministry utilizing music of multiple genres and styles and by engaging people of all ages in worship or other small groups, activities, or ensembles.
  4. Supervise the direction of all choirs, music education opportunities, special music groups, and vocal and instrumental ensembles.
  5. Supervise church pianist, organist, instrumentalists, soloists, choir directors, and music leaders.
  6. Select music that intentionally engages worshippers, demonstrating the unity of Christ with the rich heritage of timeless music and fresh expressions for each new generation.
  7. Assemble or oversee the assembly and distribution of music packets for the choir, praise team, and all instrumentalists on a weekly basis.
  8. Supervise the procurement, maintenance, and repair of all musical instruments and sound equipment belonging to the church.
  9. Prepare an annual music program budget for approval of the church and to administer the expenditure of the said budget upon its approval.
  10. Arrange for and provide music for weddings, funerals and special projects, and other church-related activities as requested.
  11. Promote the music ministry through the church’s various communication channels such as the monthly newsletter, weekly emails, social media, and through commercial media as appropriate.
  12. Coordinate all activities with the total ministry staff, under the leadership of the Pastor, to ensure a common vision and direction for the ministry of the church.
  13. Assist the Pastor in the visitation of the Church members and prospects and in other such areas of ministry as he may request.
  14. Lead by example in Christian conduct, personal witnessing, and stewardship.
  15. Work with the Nominating Committee to secure leadership in areas of responsibility.
  16. Prepare for an annual evaluation by the Pastor with the goal in mind to strengthen the work and share in the responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required)

  • A college music or worship degree is required, a seminary degree is preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge, skill, and experience in choral and instrumental conducting
  • Vocal skills sufficient to confidently lead congregational singing
  • Adequate keyboard skills necessary to lead a choral rehearsal
  • Previous experience (full-time or part-time) in a congregational ministry with an emphasis on Music Ministry is preferred.
  • A thorough understanding of biblical worship and all Baptist doctrine is required.
  • Enthusiasm and maturity to pastor people to love God
  • Must have a cooperative spirit when working with church staff, program directors, and appropriate church committees
  • Must demonstrate strong administrative skills to lead a structured music program and have a commitment to a team approach to ministry
  • Must possess and passionately convey a vocational calling to ministry
  • Must have a strong prayer and devotional life
  • Possess a keen desire to live with integrity to God’s Word and as a godly example before the entire congregation
