Hernando is a very community-oriented town and has a population nearing 20,000. The city is about twenty minutes from downtown Memphis, TN, at the intersection of I-55 & I-269. It is close to the Memphis International Airport, great hospitals, many excellent physician offices, and great restaurants.

The school system in DeSoto County is the largest school district in Mississippi with excellent test scores, and state championships in athletics and performing arts. Hernando schools are Hernando Elementary (grades K-1); Hernando Hills (Grades 2-3); Oak Grove Central (Grades 4-5); Hernando Middle

(Grades 6-8); Hernando High School (Grades 9-12).

Hernando is a beautiful city with the historic town square where the Farmer’s Market is held each Saturday April through October. The Farmer’s Market has been voted “Mississippi’s Favorite.” Hernando is the county seat for DeSoto County, the third most populous county in Mississippi. Numerous restaurants, shops, and other small businesses are located on or near the Courthouse Square. Residential areas continue to develop in and around Hernando. Commercial expansion is planned near the Interstate highway interchanges.

Hernando Baptist Church was organized in August 1840 and became part of the Southern Baptist Association in 1845. The church facility is located about three blocks East of the historic Town Square.

Hernando Baptist is committed to spreading the Good News of Jesus in Hernando, in our nation, and in our world so that people may have a new life in Christ. Our passion is that our neighbors and the nations hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ, so that God will be glorified throughout the world. Our love of God and love of people compels us to make Jesus known, whether it be through short term mission trips, partnerships, local ministry service, or simple gospel conversations in daily life. Local mission opportunities include: Hernando Interfaith Missions partnering with area churches in meeting needs; supporting the Pregnancy CARE Center in nearby Southaven for expectant families in need; a ministry to the DeSoto County Detention Center; Operation Christmas Child; and more. We provide monthly support for ministries such as area Fellowship of Christian Athletes directors, Baptist Student Union at Northwest Community College, and missionaries in New York City, Florida, the Caribbean, Spain, Poland, and India.

Our church is autonomous in its form and function yet cooperates with other Southern Baptist churches through the Southern Baptist ConventionMississippi Baptist Convention and X-tended Missions Network to effectively minister and share the Gospel of Jesus throughout the world. We contribute to the Cooperative ProgramInternational and North American Missions Boards. We affirm the Baptist Faith and Message.

The church facilities have gone through many renovations and additions and now include a a large educational building with the first floor and part of the second floor dedicated to children's ministry, a worship center that will seat 400, a gym and fellowship hall with kitchen, and office space as well as the historic chapel building. We are currently expanding and renovating the property to accommodate more on campus parking. Life Groups and Worship are the focus of our Sunday morning gatherings and Wednesday nights feature a church family meal and discipleship groups for all ages. Big events throughout the year feature VBS, children's camps, student camps, short term mission trips, fellowship and community activities.

We celebrate what God has accomplished throughout the history of the church and look forward to continuing to lead all people to be transformed by Jesus Christ.
