First Baptist Church of Kenova
First Baptist Church of Kenova sits at the intersection of West Virginia, Kentucky, and Ohio, ten minutes from Huntington, WV. God has grown this church in both depth and number, with average Sunday attendance around 450. Our largest demographic is young families with children, and that shapes how we think about ministry.
We are a Word-driven church. Our people have developed a "Berean" instinct; they want to be shown from the text, not just told. Our doctrinal home is the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 and the 1689 London Baptist Confession.
Missions
We give generously to missions and treat it as the first check we write. We recently sent a couple to Rome to serve among diaspora Muslims through International Project, with active partnerships in Africa, Central America, Europe, and Asia.
Children and Youth
Two full-time staff serve discipleship and outreach for pre-K through 12th grade. Our AWANA program and youth ministry ("The Garage") are well-attended and fruitful. Many of our families homeschool or use Christian schools, and the church actively supports that conviction.
Leadership
We are elder-led, with four shepherds and 15 active deacons. Staff includes a Lead Pastor, Children's Director, Youth Director, and support staff.
Financial Health
Our budget is $1.1 million and giving has consistently outpaced spending.
The Community
Kenova sits in a metro area of over 350,000 people. The area offers strong family communities, outdoor recreation, and a cost of living well below the national average.
