New York School of Urban Ministry

New York City, New York

Greetings from the Mission Field of NYC, one of the most international cities of the world. Founded in 1984, in the past 42 years the New York School of Urban Ministry (NYSUM) has hosted, trained and deployed over 150,000 youth and adults for urban ministry by partnering with inner city pastors, churches and ministries in New York City. NYSUM’s staff trains short term mission teams coming from churches, Bible schools, mission’s organizations, colleges and universities. An average of 5,000 people come through our doors every year, with 80% of our visiting ministry teams starting similar outreaches back home. Our groups learn about inner-city ministry through cross-cultural, “hands-on” urban ministry to the homeless, abused women, at risk children, Muslims, Jews and the NYC community in general. Outreaches take place via street meetings, soup kitchens, kids programs, city shelters and more. Stationed as a training & resource center, our 70,000 square foot training facility is located in the heart of Astoria, Queens where NYSUM provides accommodations and home-style meals for small and large groups.
