The Children’s Director/Minister is responsible for administering a program of Christian education that is biblically based to minister to the changing needs of the children and families of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. The Children’s Director/Minister will provide direction, goal setting, administration, evaluation, and planning of the children’s ministry. Alongside the Senior Pastor, the Children’s Director/Minister will serve as the Team Lead to provide spiritual leadership, a strategic vision, and administrative oversight for the children’s ministry. The Children’s Director/Minister is a direct report to the Senior Pastor.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead and organize effective children’s programs implementing biblical teaching, discipleship, worship, and evangelism, as well as ministry and mission opportunities for children from Kindergarten through fifth grade.
- Promote the unity, direction, and vision of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church by participating in staff, leadership, and calendar meetings.
- Plan and conduct lessons for the children for Sunday (including Sunday evening) and Wednesday services.
- Establish ministry opportunities that challenge our young people in service and ministry.
- Plan and direct children’s events such as Vacation Bible School, Children’s Camp, Ridge Kids Retreat, Back to School/Trunk or Treat/Fall Festivals, Ridge Kids Christmas Production, Ridge Kids Easter Program, and other activities that contribute to the children’s spiritual growth.
- Lead children’s ministry efforts to maintain updated info on all social media, websites, and apps.
- Recruit, train, and shepherd volunteers that will walk beside and support the Children’s Director/Minister in all activities.
- Plan special occasions that concern the children, such as Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Promotion Sunday, Bible Presentation, etc.
- Develop in our children love, discipline, consistency, Christian leadership, and respect for authority.
- Lead and coordinate New Believers’ class for children.
- Provide biblical care and confidential counsel to our children in moments of personal struggles or crisis.
- Provide clear communication to parents and Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church of events/activities in a way that encourages partnership and involvement.
- Seek to integrate children’s ministry into all phases of church life to create a culture that is intentionally intergenerational.
- Act as the mentor to the Pre-K Director.
- Uphold with integrity the Constitution and Bylaws of PRBC.
- Ensure that staff and volunteers adhere to the Ridge Kids Child Protection Policy and Volunteer Code of Conduct.
- Maintain a vital and wholesome personal relationship with the Lord through daily Bible study and prayer.
- Where applicable, cooperate with and participate when possible in Associational meetings to represent the church and to stay informed of matters helpful to the church.
- Be willing to fulfill any other duties assigned by the Senior Pastor.
- Maintain church office hours for the benefit of all church members and the related business of the church.
- Manage the children’s ministry budget.
- Be responsible for developing and implementing a consistent schedule of outreach strategy and practice for reaching the lost young people of our community.
Qualifications Required
- Born again Christian — as a representative of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, it is of greatest importance that the individual holding this position have a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, maintain a Christ-like lifestyle, and have a calling to this ministry role.
- Supports the Baptist Faith and Message (version 2000).
- 2+ years of experience in children’s ministry preferred.
- At least a bachelor’s degree required in a related field (e.g., Children’s Ministry, Children’s Education).
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills and proficiency in computer and technology skills.
- Possess strong leadership and strategic thinking capabilities.
- Possess proven character and integrity, maintaining a vital personal relationship with the Lord through daily Bible study and prayer, as well as having proper priorities at home with family, exhibiting an example of a Godly balanced life.
