Job Description

Church Overview

Grace Fellowship Church is a small, welcoming family located in Decatur, IN where we are committed to doing life side-by-side with our neighbors. We are a community of deep, intentional prayer, and we believe we are called to be the church beyond our walls. As a Wesleyan-Arminian church, we value holiness, discipleship, and evangelism, seeking to help each other become the people God designed us to be.

Principle Function

The Head Pastor will be responsible to the Church Leadership to proclaim the biblical-based gospel of Jesus Christ and to serve as the spiritual shepherd of our flock. This role includes:

  • Preaching biblically-sound and engaging sermons that effectively communicate God's heart.
  • Providing pastoral care ministry to the congregation and wider community.
  • Offering leadership to all areas of church life and helping to guide our church's vision for the future.

Primary Traits

While leading worship and preaching are vital parts of this position, we are seeking a candidate with the following personal and ministerial traits:

  • Outgoing and Approachable: The pastor should have an infectious passion for ministry and actively engage with members of the congregation and community.
  • Shepherd's Heart: A true shepherd, the pastor will care deeply for the spiritual and emotional well-being of the flock, providing loving guidance, comfort during crises, and protection from false teachings.
  • Biblically Grounded: The pastor must have a strong understanding of Scripture and sound Wesleyan-Arminian theology, and be committed to preaching and teaching the inerrant Word of God.
  • Community Minded: We seek a pastor who is aware of and concerned with community needs, capable of addressing these concerns from a pastoral perspective to establish respect in our small town.
  • Dedicated to Family: The pastor should be a positive leader within their own family, demonstrating a healthy balance between ministry and personal life.
  • Vision-Oriented: The ideal candidate will be excited about their calling and possess a vision of God's work in our church and community, enthusiastically sharing it with the congregation.

Secondary Traits

We are also looking for skills in leadership, administration, counseling, evangelism, stewardship, and a commitment to personal growth.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct worship services, including preparing and delivering sermons and leading in observance of ordinances.
  • Lead the church in effective witness and outreach to the community.
  • Visit members, prospects, and those who are shut-in or hospitalized.
  • Provide counseling sessions and perform wedding and funeral ceremonies as needed.
  • Work with the church leadership team and committees to guide and train them in ministry.
  • Help manage the church’s budget and administrative duties in collaboration with church leaders.

To Apply

If you feel called to this ministry in our small town, please submit your resume, a cover letter, and a statement of faith.

We look forward to hearing from you.
