Job Description

The Director of Youth and Christian Education seeks to foster a strong Christian faith and life education programs through teachers, members, and church leaders that strengthens our commitment to growth in faith in Jesus Christ. The primary role is to provide administrative leadership, oversee, and coordinate the Christian Education programs.


Responsibilities

  1. Develop, with laity and youth, a well-rounded Christian Education program (Discipleship, Mission, Nurture, Stewardship, Worship, and Leadership).
  2. Chair a Christian Education Committee to develop and implement an educational strategic plan for all ages in line with the vision of our church.
  3. Provide and promote overall coordination of Junior and Senior High UMYF.

Develop appropriate relationships with youth and their families.

Recruit, train and guide adults to work with the Junior and Senior High groups.

Oversee planning and execution of regular UMFY Sunday meetings or events and communicate with parents, volunteers and youth.

Equip youth to be active participants and leaders in worship (such as acolytes, liturgists, ushers).

Develop youth worship services and opportunities for music and drama.

Identify ministry outreach opportunities for the youth.

Promote and maintain cooperation between youth ministry and the ministry of the church.

4. Identify and recruit church members, including teachers and support personnel, to carry out Christian Education programs for all age groups to include but not limited to Sunday School,

Children's Church and Wednesday night educational activities.

5.Coordinate and recruit volunteers for children's activities (such as Vacation Bible School, Trunk or Treat, Easter Egg Hunt, and expanded special activities.

6. Attend worship services and participate in worship leadership (occasionally address the congregation from the pulpit.)

Administrative Duties

  1. Under the guidance of Senior Pastor, develop publicity by communicating in various formats to congregations (such as online, live streams, emails, monthly newsletter, etc.).
  2. Assist, as directed by the Senior Pastor, to meet Senior Pastoral care needs of the youth and their families.
  3. Assume responsibilities and functions as needed or requested by the Senior Pastor.
  4. Maintain classroom supplies for all Sunday School groups.
  5. Maintain the Youth Ministry School folders with attendance worksheets, parent and teacher notes, etc.
  6. Prepare budget and monitor expenses for all Christian Education Programs and Youth Ministry.
  7. This position reports to the Senior Pastor, fulfilling responsibilities as in this job description, defining goals, evaluating activities, and communicating concerns related to the performance of this position.
  8. Regular hours include office hours Monday-Thursday and Sunday mornings. (Full-time salaried). Hours must be flexible to accommodate Easter, Christmas, Adult, Youth, and Children's ministry programs, committee meetings, etc.
  9. Attend meetings as directed by the Senior Pastor (such as Staff Meetings, Education Committee, Administrative Council, etc.

Professional and Personal Development

  1. Practices Sabbath and spiritual discipline
  2. Attends appropriate continuing Christian Education opportunities.
