Job Description

Ministry Description

This pastoral role is primarily responsible for the development and oversight of all Heritage Bible Chapel student ministries involving 7th-12th grade students, with the goal of partnering with parents to see students become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.


Time and Travel Requirements

•        Full time, average 40-50hrs; includes some nights and weekends

•        Requires some overnight travel which may include retreats, conferences, and mission trips

•        Minimum of 25hr/wk to be spent in the church office, allowing for collaboration with staff


Specific Responsibilities and Expectations



Student Ministry


Teaching

  • Prepare and teach biblically faithful, relevant lessons that equip students to know God and apply His truth to student’s lives
  • Choose and coordinate curriculum for Sunday school, youth group, and small groups that are doctrinally accurate and applicable to student’s lives

Pastoral Care

  • Pray regularly for students and youth leaders by name
  • Provide counsel and spiritual direction to youth on an individual basis

Equipping

  • Recruit, train, and mobilize youth leaders with diverse gifts and personalities
  • Integrate student ministry into church life to create an intentional, intergenerational culture, striving to unite with and complement other Heritage ministries
  • Encourage parental partnership and support parents in their Christian parenting roles

Outreach

  • Engage youth in local and global missions
  • Creatively reach out to and welcome students from local schools, working to have a presence in those schools by attending events or activities the youth are involved in

Administration

  • Create and execute a long-term vision for Heritage’s student ministry
  • Stay current with youth ministry through reading, youth leadership conferences, etc.
  • Lead and organize effective youth programs that help students connect in community, grow in maturity, serve using their gifts, and share their faith
  • Provide consistent, detailed communication to students and parents regarding activities through parent meetings, emails, texts, social media, or other methods


Overall Staff Responsibilities & Expectations

  • Reports directly to and is mentored by an overseeing elder; present periodic updates to the elder board
  • Attend worship services and staff meetings on a weekly basis
  • Participate, as needed, in the development of the overall church ministry
  • Coordinate activities and calendars with church staff, ministries, and committees
  • Sensitive to and supportive of other church staff, ministries, and committees
  • Plan and lead large events, including special services, retreats, evangelistic events, mission trips
  • Develop, propose, and manage ministry budgets; manage fees for events, trips, and other ministry needs



Position Profile


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree with a focus in Bible and youth ministry (or related Christian) training, preferred; seminary degree, ideal.
  • 3+yrs experience in youth ministry, preferred

  • Meets character requirements for elders as found in 1 Tim 3:1-7
  • Spiritual gift of pastor/teacher; strong Christian role model
  • Effective Bible teacher; able to teach, evangelize, disciple, and train teenagers
  • Devoted follower of Christ with strong personal obedience to God and a devoted prayer life; showing growing evidence of fruits of the Spirit in his walk
  • Mature, wise, and discerning; honest and trustworthy
  • Humble, servant’s heart; peacemaker and team player
  • Heathy family life
  • Love for the local church, students, and families
  • Relationally oriented, strong people skills; can work synergistically with church staff
  • Hard working, energetic, creative, visionary leader and flexible
  • Able to counsel and deal with crisis and conflict
  • Able to effectively minister to New England culture
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills necessary for managing ministries


Doctrine

Candidate must be in agreement with the entire Heritage doctrinal statement. We are a congregation with individuals from multiple theological and church backgrounds, and so he must be able to work in that context while faithfully articulating a biblical vision for Christian life and ministry.
