Full-Time Pastor Position Description
Purpose and Oversight
Kenefick Southern Baptist Church is seeking a Full-Time Pastor to serve as the chief shepherd, preacher, teacher, and spiritual leader for our rural Baptist congregation situated in a rapidly growing area. The Pastor is expected to be a godly, ordained man who demonstrates a Christ-centered life, communicates biblical truth with clarity, and exhibits genuine care for people. The ideal candidate is passionate about serving Christ, equips leaders and volunteers, and provides administrative oversight for the church, all while remaining anchored in Scripture, Baptist doctrine, and the Great Commission.
The Pastor must be called, ordained, and meet the qualifications outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1–7, Titus 1:5–9, and 1 Peter 5:1–4, as required by Baptist ecclesiology.
Key Responsibilities
1. Preaching and Worship
· Prepare and deliver biblically expository sermons each week, including the administration of ordinances.
· Oversee worship planning in collaboration with worship teams and church staff.
· Encourage congregational participation in evangelism through sermons and service invitations.
2. Shepherding and Pastoral Care
· Implement visitation programs for new members, homebound individuals, hospitalized patients, and those grieving.
· Provide biblical counseling in areas such as premarital relationships, family matters, grief, and spiritual guidance, and coordinate with professional counselors as needed.
3. Leadership and Equipping the Saints
· Lead in vision casting, discipleship, and evangelism initiatives, encouraging members to utilize their spiritual gifts.
· Mentor paid staff and volunteers, offering direction to the Youth Group, Kid Ministry, Sunday School, outreach, and other ministries.
4. Administration and Governance
· Ensure operational consistency with the church’s bylaws.
· Oversee budget planning with the finance committees and supervise office staff and facilities.
· Moderate business and membership meetings.
5. Community Engagement and Denominational Involvement
· Represent the church at civic and denominational events and promote involvement in mission work.
· Develop and support outreach programs, mission trips, and community service initiatives.
Qualifications and Preferred Attributes
Spiritual and Theological Qualifications
· Must be a born-again believer, ordained and/or licensed Baptist pastor in good standing, and passionate about serving Christ.
· Firmly uphold and teach biblical doctrine consistent with the Baptist Faith and Message.
· Demonstrate strong character, humility, teaching ability, compassion, fiscal integrity, and the fruits of biblical leadership.
Education and Experience
· Seminary degree from a reputable organization is preferred.
· Minimum of three years of pastoral experience preferred, including leadership in worship, counseling, and administration.
· Experience serving in small to mid-size congregations is preferred, especially with staff team mentoring.
Practical Skills
· Exemplary preaching, teaching, and communication skills.
· Strong organizational and delegation abilities to oversee staff, volunteers, programming, and budget management.
· Experience in counseling, conflict resolution, people management, and community outreach.
· Flexibility in scheduling and the ability to balance ministry and family priorities effectively.
· Proficiency with social media and web outreach is desirable.
