Cultural Setting of Agape Christian Church

Agape Christian Church is located in La Porte, Indiana, approximately 60 miles from Chicago and 30 miles from South Bend. The La Porte area is a diverse community with a population around 21,000. La Porte is under 40 minutes away from two Indiana State Parks and the Dunes National Lakeshore. There are several small lakes in La Porte County that provide opportunities for boating, fishing, and swimming. There are many city and county parks and recreational areas that include beaches, hiking and biking trails, sports fields, and playgrounds, as well as community events put on by civic and non-profit organizations.

The largest employers are the La Porte Hospital, the La Porte Community School Corporation, Howmet Aerospace (formerly Arconic), with several smaller industries.

The La Porte Community School Corporation consists of La Porte High School (grades 9-12), Kesling Intermediate School (grades 5-6), La Porte Middle School (grades 7-8), and eight different elementary schools (grades K-4).

About Agape Christian Church

Agape is an independent Christian church with our roots in the Restoration Movement. As an independent congregation, we do our best to follow the Bible as our rule and guide in how we lead the church. The congregation of Agape is dedicated to biblically sound teaching and leadership. Agape is shepherded by Elders elected by the congregation who make decisions by consensus. Agape also elects deacons who serve specific roles within the church. Agape intentionally works to develop additional leaders within the congregation by mentoring and training future leaders.

Agape offers two unique worship services. On Sunday mornings, we offer a contemporary service with a Sunday school hour prior to the service. On Sunday evenings, Agape offers a coffeehouse-style service with contemporary music and casual dress.

Agape is dedicated to helping people know and grow in Christ, so there are Sunday school classes for every age group on Sunday mornings, including a study specifically for adults with special needs, small group Bible studies throughout the week, and men's and women's ministries. In the past few years Agape has invested in building our Children’s ministry, which included adding Kid’s Church midweek for our kids to come and grow in Christ with a Bible study for their parents to attend at the same time. Agape also dedicates 17% of our giving to support local and global missions.

At Agape we emphasize ministering to every age group. We encourage people of the church to use their gifts and talents to be the church. We are continually seeking new ways to increase our involvement in the community and minister to the surrounding La Porte area. We often connect and cooperate with other churches through offering conferences together or hosting events to help other people and churches grow to build the Kingdom of God, and not just our own congregation. Our immediate priorities in ministry are building the Youth and Children’s Ministries and developing outreach programs to reach our community for Christ.
