Good Shepherd Church

Good Shepherd is an historically Lutheran congregation committed to being fluid and flexible in meeting the rapidly changing ministry environment in Sacramento, California, one of America’s most diverse cities. We are a credal church believing every word of the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds and striving to act accordingly, and even experimentally, by carrying forward what is essential to life in Christ while laying aside aspects of church life that no longer meet the needs of a diverse and growing community.

Good Shepherd exists to bring hope, help, and healing to our changing world. Our vision is to ignite passion for a life in Jesus. We strive to live out our values of love, accountability, generosity, relationships, and transformation.

In addition to the pastoral team, Good Shepherd supports a group of deacons who act as lay ministers bringing hope to the most isolated and vulnerable among us. We are on the frontlines helping the homeless and food-insecure through the Sierra-Arden Food Closet, and St. John’s Program for Real Change, as well as through active partnerships with other ministries in Sacramento’s Arden-Arcade community. Additionally, Good Shepherd prioritizes a vibrant prayer ministry that anticipates healing and transformation through the power of the Holy Spirit.
