Portales, New Mexico
Founded in May 1919, New Mexico Baptist Children's Home is the longest continuously operating residential childcare facility in New Mexico. The goal of NMBCH has always been to make a difference in the lives of the children God entrusts to our care. The dedicated Christian staff is focused on encouraging each child to become a well-adjusted and responsible individual. This includes guiding children in their growth physically, mentally, spiritually, and socially.
Children in our Residential Care program live in a home-like cottage setting that accommodates up to nine children. Each cottage has married Christian couples who serve as houseparents, caring for the children on a twenty-four-hour basis. Life at NMBCH is not unlike life in a typical family.
Houseparents are trained and committed to helping each child grow physically, mentally, spiritually, and socially. This guidance and growth enable the child to meet personal goals and make significant lifestyle changes.
Children attend Portales Public Schools and participate in athletics as well as other extracurricular activities through the schools. They are also involved in our 4H Club.
