Part-Time Youth Director

Colonial Hills UMC is seeking a part-time Youth Director (20-30 hours/week) to join our ministry team this spring. This role is ideal for someone who’s passionate about walking with youth through seasons of growth, faith formation, and community.
We are looking to initiate a smooth transition to a new Youth Director through the Summer, beginning with a period of cooperative leadership in the Spring. The incoming Youth Director will have the opportunity to learn the rhythms of our program, build relationships, and step into full leadership with clarity and continuity.
Job Description
Title: Youth Director
Classification: Non-Exempt
Pay Scale/Rate: $18- $24 per hour 30 hours per week; pay checks issued bi-weekly
Leave Time:
Vacation – 60 hours per year as of January 1; prorated if hired after @ an appropriate percentage based on the date of hire
- Sick – as per employee handbook
- Compensatory Time – can be earned as follows, with Lead Pastor’s approval
- hour per hour for those worked above 40 hours
- 8 hours per day for overnight trips if 1) assigned to workshops or seminars or 2) taking kids to overnight trips, lock-ins, or the like
Accountability
Reports directly to the Lead Pastor and secondarily to the SPRC Committee.
Qualifications
- Must exhibit deep spiritual maturity and lifestyle consistent with the teachings of Jesus Christ and alignment with the beliefs and mission of the United Methodist Church
- Prefer a minimum of a bachelor's degree and/or 3 years youth ministry related experience.
- Demonstrates strong oral and written communication skills and appropriate use of social media
- Must be comfortable discussing challenging theological and life situation topics, as such discussions may occur
- Must work well as part of a staff team; coordinate volunteers; delegate, empower, and hold youth accountable
- Proficiency using current technology as a means of communication and organizational planning.
- CPR and First Aid training required must remain current, renewal costs reimbursed by the church.
- Must pass a criminal background check
- Completion of Rio Texas Safe Gatherings within 30 days of employment.
- Experience in youth ministry or related leadership roles
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
- Alignment with the beliefs and mission of the United Methodist Church
- Ability to work collaboratively and communicate clearly
- Availability to begin in May 2026
Job Specifications
Responsibilities
- Lead a program that nurtures relationships between youth, church community, and Christ.
- Guide 6th - 12th grade students in faith and mentor them as they continue their growth with God and one another.
- Help youth explore and develop their God given gifts and talents as leaders, servants, disciples, and friends.
- Promote a safe, inviting, Christian environment where youth can live, work, grow, learn, and love.
- Lead weekly Youth Fellowship gatherings and Sunday School
- Plan quarterly fellowship events and summer camp / mission experiences
- Recruit, train, and support adult volunteers
- Collaborate with church staff and lay leaders to strengthen intergenerational ministry
- Support youth and families with presence, encouragement, and spiritual guidance
- Collaborate and communicate regularly with the Lead Pastor to evaluate and develop programming, coordinate calendars, and continue personal spiritual growth.
- Collaborate with the Church Administrator to coordinate communication with the congregation and church resources
- Ensure compliance with Safe Gatherings and CHUMC Safety policies and practices for all youth activities, experiences, study opportunities.
- Attend weekly staff meetings
- Attend and participate in Sunday Worship.
Expectations
- Maintain office hours within the established office hours while maintaining a flexible enough schedule to work on Sundays during services, and other dates as the ministry requires. (Office hours will be assigned by the Lead Pastor)
- Keep, maintain, and submit a record of your time sheet.
- Follow all policies and procedures of the Employee Handbook.
- Perform other duties as assigned that pertain to the general role of Youth Director as need arises or assigned.
- Keep and submit attendance records (to the Church Administrator) for:
- Sunday School classes (population per class)
- All other youth activities and events.
- Keep and produce when requested a communication log of all communication to youth and parents of youth involved with CHUMC.
- Be warm hearted, welcoming, and demonstrate loving kindness to all people.
- Primary focus is to be on CHUMC Youth (6th – 12th grade); other gatherings designed for Young Adults (post 12th grade) should be separate from Youth Activities.
- Only record hours for pay in which work was performed for CHUMC Youth, unless approved by the Lead Pastor.
