We are a small, rural, historic Catholic parish in southern Maryland. We are looking for a Director of Music who can accompany a small choir and an active congregation on a keyboard and organ. One Mass on Sunday mornings, multiple Masses at Christmas and Easter, Triduum services, and the occasional funeral and wedding. We encourage a variety of musical styles, and we prioritize congregational singing. The Director is responsible for selecting appropriate music for each service, and for working cooperatively with the pastor. This is a paid position. No formal musical education is required, and applicants need not be Catholic, though applicants should have some familiarity with Catholic worship
The Catholic ministry at Chapel Point was begun in 1662 by Jesuit missionaries. Today, more than 360 years later, St. Ignatius Church at Chapel Point is still sponsored and staffed by the Jesuits, and they, along with our lay colleagues, have served God's people without interruption since then. We remain a vibrant Catholic community, committed to preaching and practicing the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to the spirituality of the Jesuits and the traditions and beliefs of the Roman Catholic Church.
