About Vienna Presbyterian Church:   VPC is located in the heart of Vienna, Virginia.  The town has about 15,000 residents, and is one of the suburbs of Washington, DC.  In 2021, VPC celebrated its 150th anniversary and the beginning of an exciting new chapter as we welcomed our new lead pastor, Rev. Dr. Hope Lee.

About the position:  The Director of Children’s Ministry needs to be an energetic, outgoing person that has a heart to lead the children of the VPC church and reach out to the greater community.  This position involves building relationships with parents while equipping and encouraging them to be actively involved at home in the spiritual growth of their children. Each week, you will be leading an engaging ministry that not only helps children understand the Scripture, but brings it to life! Through this and a variety of other programming, you will be giving children opportunities to explore their faith in a safe and nurturing Biblical environment. 



Director of Children’s Ministry Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):

  • Provide vision, goals and strategic direction for Children’s Ministry through the lens of VPC’s mission statement.
  • Manage and oversee all curriculum for pre-K through 6th grade.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of spiritual formation opportunities through education and programming for pre-K through sixth grade.
  • Direct/lead children’s programming, such as Doorways to Worship, preteen club, VBS, Sacraments classes, summer camp, and pre-teen summer mission/service week.
  • Provide leadership, organization, training, support, encouragement, accountability and appreciation to Children’s Ministry volunteers.


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher educational degree is required 
  • At least 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Extensive experience teaching and/or public speaking.
  • Possess working knowledge of the stages of child and faith development.


Personal Characteristics:

  • An articulated faith in Jesus Christ, sound Biblical knowledge with a reformed understanding, and intentional spiritual growth practices lived out in daily life and in serving the church
  • Love for children and deep commitment to their physical, emotional, and social needs to ensure faith development
  • Enthusiastically affirm and be guided by the mission, vision and core beliefs of VPC
  • Good relational and interpersonal communication skills
  • Takes responsibility for continuing spiritual growth
