Director of Ministry With Children
Boone United Methodist Church is seeking applicants for the position of Director of Ministry with Children. This full-time position is an integral part of our church family, holding the responsibility of shepherding our youngest members in the faith and nurturing their love for Jesus.
Position Overview:
The Director provides vision and leadership for the Children’s Ministry of Boone United Methodist with the goal of helping children and their families become more passionately in love of Jesus and become more willing to follow Him. The Director of Children’s Ministry seeks to fulfill the church’s vision of “loving our community and inviting all to discover life in Christ.”
This position recruits, trains and equips volunteers and paid staff for all programs including, but not limited, to Sunday School, Confirmation, Vacation Bible School, Nursery/Childcare, Special Events as well as provide supervision for preschool director and membership on the preschool board.
Essential Job Functions:
• Reach out to families with children to help them engage more fully in the life of the church that will promote holistic spiritual growth and maturity for the whole family, especially the young people.To that end:
• Lead a year-long program of confirmation for the church’s 6th graders with the hopes the young people will make a profession of faith in Christ, receive baptism (if not previous) and become full members of Boone United Methodist Church.
• Lead children’s Sunday School by identifying, equipping and providing resources to teachers for ages three through 6th grade which will include a “Godly Play” curriculum for the appropriate classes.
• Organize and resource the Children’s Church activities which includes the recruitment and training of paid staff.
• During the program year, direct a once a week after school children’s program.
• Lead and oversee Vacation Bible School, including acquiring curriculum, resources, volunteers, decorations and training for leaders and teachers.
• Develop and oversee Summer Programs such as camping trips, family mission trips and family ministry activities.
• Equip families to intentionally participate in the spiritual formation of their children.
• Oversee Boone United Methodist Preschool Ministry
• Supervise and Advise the Director of BUMC Preschool.
• Serve as representative on Executive Board.
• Craft and provide oversight to the children’s ministry and nursery ministry budgets.
• Ensure that church complies with Safe Sanctuary guidelines with resources and annual training.
• Provide emotional care for families and children as needed.
• Lead and organize mission opportunities for children and their families
• Be a good team member of a very motivated and congenial staff.
• Perform other duties assigned by the senior pastor and/or the Staff Parish Relations Committee.
Needed Skills:
Ability to connect with children and their parents, to help them grow in their relationship with Jesus through the ministries of the Boone United Methodist Church.
Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to motivate, inspire, lead and equip volunteers.
Credentials:
A bachelor’s degree and some theological education is preferred, but not required. Also, experience working with children either professionally or as a volunteer.
Must be a trusted leader of children and those who care about them at Boone UMC.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
This is an active position with frequent occurrences of climbing, reaching, bending, stooping, sitting on floor and standing for long periods of times.
