Director of Children's & Family Ministries

Role Overview

The Director of Children and Family Ministry provides leadership, vision, and oversight for all ministries serving children from birth through 5th grade at Illuminate Church, while also helping shape a healthy, intentional approach to family discipleship. This role exists to create safe, engaging, and Christ-centered environments where children encounter Jesus and families are supported as they grow in faith together.

In addition to leading Spark Kids, the Director partners closely with the Lead Pastor and ministry team to develop family-focused strategies, plan quarterly family ministry experiences, and equip parents to be the primary spiritual leaders in their homes. This is a key leadership role on the Illuminate Church team, helping families find hope, freedom, and purpose in Jesus.

Primary ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Oversight – Spark Kids (Birth–5th Grade)

• Provide vision, structure, and leadership for all aspects of Spark Kids Ministry.
• Ensure Sunday environments are safe, engaging, age-appropriate, and biblically grounded.
• Oversee curriculum selection, classroom environments, and large-group teaching moments.
• Maintain excellence and consistency across all kids ministry environments.

Volunteer Recruitment & Development

• Recruit, train, equip, and care for a growing team of Spark Kids volunteers.
• Build a healthy volunteer culture that values spiritual growth, teamwork, and ownership.
• Lead regular volunteer meetings, trainings, and development moments.
• Create clear systems for onboarding, scheduling, and communication.

Family Ministry Strategy

• Partner with parents as they disciple their children at home.
• Plan and lead quarterly family ministry events that build connection and faith formation.
• Collaborate with church leadership to align children and family ministry with the overall vision and direction of Illuminate.
• Serve as a pastoral presence for families, offering encouragement, prayer, and support.

Team Collaboration & Church Leadership

• Work closely with the Lead Pastor and staff team to support Illuminate’s mission and growth.
• Participate in staff meetings, planning rhythms, and church-wide initiatives.
• Help develop scalable systems as Illuminate continues to grow and expand.

Qualifications & Characteristics

• A growing, authentic relationship with Jesus and a clear passion for children and family ministry.
• Experience leading children’s ministry or family ministry (church or comparable environment).
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to recruit, develop, and empower volunteers.
• Comfortable building systems while keeping relationships at the center.
• Alignment with Illuminate Church’s mission, values, and theological convictions.

This role is ideal for a leader who loves kids, believes deeply in partnering with parents, and is excited to help build something meaningful as a church continues to grow. The right person will be both pastoral and practical, able to dream big while executing well.

Pay: $40,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year

Illuminate Church was formed in the spring of 2022 when a group of christians began to grow weary of church "the way it had always been done." as they looked at the state of the churches around them they saw places that were more concerned with the model and polity of how to do church then they were with the mission of being the church. Instilled with a fervent passion for expanding the reach of the gospel and engaging the community through relationship, the idea of illuminate was formed. Through much hard work, dedication, and sacrifice the vision to launch illuminate was realized in the fall of 2022.

We strive to be a church without walls. Jesus calls for us to go outside the walls to reach the lost and the broken. It is there that the lost will be found. Most churches find it is comfortable to stay within the walls, but we make it an effort to be like the church from the book of Acts, to see our city changed.
