North Raleigh UMC is seeking a Director of Children’s Ministry to lead the North Raleigh Kids Ministry. This person will be responsible for visioning, developing, and implementing a comprehensive children’s ministry that nurtures the discipleship of children, birth through 5th grade, fostering a love for God and a desire to follow Jesus.

HOURS: 40 hours/week salaried ($50-$60,000) with
benefits including health insurance & retirement; exempt
REPORTS TO: Senior Pastor (Laura)
SUPERVISES: Preschool Director, Nursery Coordinator
POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Children’s Ministry is responsible for visioning, developing, and implementing a comprehensive children’s ministry that nurtures the discipleship of children, birth through 5th grade, fostering a love for God and a desire to follow Jesus. This position is a visible spiritual leader for children and their families, with regular presence on Sundays, Wednesday evenings, and for all North Raleigh Kids Ministry programming.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
PROGRAM LEADERSHIP
- Coordinate the visioning, planning, and implementation of North Raleigh Kids Ministry, ensuring it is a comprehensive discipleship program for children birth to 5th grade.
- See the “big picture” of children’s ministry at NRUMC and cast a compelling vision for children’s programming.
- Ensure programming includes age-appropriate curriculum, activities, and experiences that introduce children to the stories, teachings, and values of the Christian faith.
- Oversee and manage all children and family discipleship and fellowship programming, including but not limited to:
- Sunday School
- Wednesday night children’s programming for younger children and the Bridge 4th and 5th Grade Ministry
- Seasonal events like Trunk or Treat and Christmas Breakfast
- Direct and coordinate Vacation Bible School
- Partner with the Director of Music Ministries and program staff to plan and implement the summer music and arts camp
- Engage children in worship
- Direct and coordinate children serving in worship as acolytes, crucifers, and Scripture readers
- Prepare and present the weekly Children’s Message in worship
- Create and staff a Children’s Church ministry at 11 am
- Partner with the music staff to promote and support Children’s Music Ministry opportunities
- Direct and coordinate the Family Christmas Eve service
- Engage children in mission
- Partner with the program staff (Youth & Missions, Discipleship & Engagement) to provide and promote intergenerational and/or child-friendly service opportunities
- Ensure the value of mission and service is communicated regularly throughout children’s ministry programming
- Partner with program staff and pastors to support parents in the vocation of Christian parenting by sharing resources, providing educational events/workshops, and creating a culture of warmth and care among families.
- Oversee the Nursery program by supervising the nursery coordinator and resourcing the ministry with materials and volunteers
- Partner with the Preschool Director to provide opportunities for engagement between the Kids Ministry and Preschool
LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
- Oversee the Family Ministry Team, collaborating with them to identify and execute ministry and mission with children and their families.
- Recruit, train, and resource leaders of the Family Ministry Team.
- Recruit, train, and resource teachers and volunteers for North Raleigh Kids Ministry programming and events, including youth volunteers.
- Partner with the pastors, SPRC, and nursery coordinator to hire nursery staff as needed.
ADMINISTRATION
- Oversee Safe Sanctuary team and conduct annual policy review. Ensure children’s ministry is in compliance with the Safe Sanctuary policy through training and clear expectations.
- Oversee communication of North Raleigh Kids programming and events, including regular newsletters and social media engagement.
- Develop, implement, and manage the budget for children’s ministry.
- Coordinate registration and check-in process for regular programming and events.
- Serve on the Preschool Board as the staff liaison.
- Participate in Staff meetings, Preschool Board meetings, Program Team meetings, and other meetings as required

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s Degree in education, social sciences, theology, ministry or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in children’s ministry leadership
- Commitment to teaching and promoting NRUMC’s mission and values and United Methodist theology
- Must be self-directed, organized, and a team player
- Competency in the following software:

- Church Data Management Software (Planning Center preferred)
