Minister of Students and Community Outreach/Missions

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY

·      To plan, coordinate, and implement a comprehensive ministry that focuses on discipling students in Middle/High School (grades 6-12) and College.

·      To lead the congregation in its effort to reach the lost, the unchurched and those who are the “least of these” (Matthew 25:40). 

PERSONAL CHARACTER

·      Show a strong, personal relationship and commitment to following Jesus Christ, having a heart for disciple-making. 

·      Maintain a positive attitude and strong work ethic. 

·      Have an awareness of the effects interpersonal communication skills has on the overall health and wellness of the church body. 

·      Have a demeanor that is above reproach and possessing qualities in keeping with elder-level church leadership as outlined in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1.

MINISTER TO STUDENTS EXPECTATIONS

The Student Minister shall provide direction, cast vision, raise up leaders, and implement a ministry to reach and disciple middle/high school and college students in the following ways:

·      Plan, develop, organize, facilitate, oversee, and/or lead student and college activities on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights. 

·      Plan special student and college events such as camps, concerts, and mission projects.

·      Plan an activity for students outside of Wednesday/Sunday at least once per month.

·      Give direction, guidance, training, and leadership to student volunteers.

·      Teach the Word of God with boldness, clarity, and effectiveness.

·      Keep current with present and future trends in the student ministry field.

·      Lead students and student workers to be evangelistic and missional in their lifestyles.

·      Help students and student workers to deepen their personal walk with Christ.

·      Provide counseling to students as they transition from middle school to high school and, then, from high school to college and career.

·      Develop a working relationship with the parents of students. Structure the overall student ministry in a manner that draws student and parents closer together in a common pursuit of Christ.

·      Minister to students and parents through the events of every day life. Contact students when absent. Visit the student and his/her family during trying times. Actively minister to students and their parents through visits, calls, emails, and other points of contact.

·      Ensure adequate supervision is provided for all student activities keeping in line with the church’s Child Protection Policy.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH/MISSIONS MINISTRY EXPECTATIONS

The Community Outreach/Missions Minister shall:

·      Support the Senior Pastor in the overall vision casting and leadership of the Community Outreach/Missions Ministries of FBCM. Support the efforts of the church staff at large in regard to any event or activity that may relate to community outreach and missions.

·      Develop goals and objectives for the Community Outreach/Missions Ministries that are consistent and in line with the Core Values and Vision of FBCM.

·      Review needs within the community and provide a strategy the church may implement to meet that need. 

·      Provide oversight to the leadership of any existing Community Outreach/Missions Ministries, seeing to their needs, addressing any concerns leadership may have, and being part of their overall success and effectiveness. 

·      Participate as an ad hoc member of the Missions Committee.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

·      Attend regular church services, special events, staff meetings, and business meetings as scheduled.

·      Maintain a work week that equals no less than 40 hours including office hours in conjunction with the normal business hours including time spent on Sunday & Wednesday and any church activity scheduled outside of normal business hours.

·      Be accessible outside of normal business hours recognizing ministry may take place at any time.

·      Assist in home and hospital visitations as necessary.

·      Prepare and submit an annual budget to the finance committee and monitor expenses related to the student and outreach ministry.

·      Demonstrate excellent communication skills (in both spoken and written formats).

·      Be approachable, malleable, and teachable. 

·      Pastor, mentor, care, develop, build a pastoral relationship with those in the student and outreach/missions ministries. (Recognize that ministry is an investment. Investing is a key component to the success and health of the church.)

·      Conduct any weddings and funerals in alignment with church policies.

MISCELLANEOUS

·      The candidate of choice will be required to give the church permission to run a credit and criminal background check prior to an invitation for a call.

·      Any concerns regarding employment not addressed in this job description are subject to Church Bylaws and the FBCM Employee Handbook. 

·      The Student and Outreach Minister falls under the supervision of the Senior Pastor of FBCM.
