Children’s Pastor Job Description

Reports To: Senior Pastor

Position Status: Full Time

Purpose: The role of the Children’s Pastor is to provide leadership, development and direction for the Children’s Ministry leaders and workers as it pertains to the mission, vision and values of First Baptist Church of Haynesville. The Children’s Pastor will provide direct oversight to all Children’s Ministries (birth-5th grade)

Qualifications:

·      Have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, evidenced by action, attitude and behavior. Maintain personal spiritual development through Bible reading, prayer and daily walk with God

·      Become a member of First Baptist Church Haynesville and fully embrace the mission, vision and values of the church

·      Be in agreement with the Baptist faith and Message 2000 and the First Baptist Church of Haynesville by-laws

·      Have a passion for Children’s Ministry and see families grow in their faith together

·      Preferably have an educational background in Christian Ministries, Biblical Studies or a related field

·      Be reliable, take initiative, self-motivated. Give attention to details and strive for excellence

·      Use appropriate judgement in the areas of discretion, sensitivity and confidentiality

·      Have a cooperative, healthy and motivating relationship with church leaders, co-workers and volunteers

·      Be proficient in use of social media and use of technology as well as work with the person in charge of the church website to regularly update events in the Children’s Ministry

Job Duties:

·      Provide vision, strategy, and development for all Children’s Ministries (birth-5th grade)

·      Provide leadership, direction, training and oversight for all Children’s Ministry leaders, workers and volunteers

·      Provide leadership and oversight for all Children’s Ministries that include: Children’s Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Wednesday Night Ministries, Sunday Morning Children’s Church, Special Events, Children’s Camp, Sunday Night Ministries, Nursery

·      Recruit, train, pray for and involve new Children’s Ministry volunteers

·      Help ensure warm, friendly, fun and safe learning environment for children and families

·      Create and effectively manage Children’s Ministry budget with direction from Senior Pastor and/or Finance Committee

·      Communicate consistently with parents as well as provide tools they need for spiritual leadership along with encouraging and equipping them to develop a biblical worldview in their children

·      Promote scripture memorizing, prayer and a personal Bible reading

·      Work closely with Youth Pastor to assure smooth transition of students moving to Youth

·      Conduct bi-monthly meetings with leaders involved in all aspects of Children’s Ministries

·      Other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor

Accountability:

·      The Children’s Pastor will be required to report all money raised/received (cash, checks, money orders, donations) to the church secretary and deposited in the bank no later than one week after receiving

·      The Children’s Pastor will provide a receipt for every expense paid from the Children’s account

·      The Children’s Pastor will submit an expense report with receipts to the church secretary no later than one week after receipt when expenses come from the children’s budget/account

Church Ministry:

As a church staff member in a ministerial role, the following are expectations:         

·      Present at all weekend services and functions

·      Participate in staff meetings, providing up-to-date information about ministry

·      Assist the Senior Pastor with visitation of hospitals, nursing homes, shut-in’s, etc. as it pertains to children and their immediate families

·      Keep the Senior Pastor informed of accomplishments, concerns and future plans

·      Maintain open communication with all staff members of the church

·      Keep regular office hours for study and administration while being available for children and their families outside of normal office hours. Must contact pastor in case of absence

·      Service in church-wide events

·      Maintain a Christ-like attitude in dealing with others inside and outside of the church family.
