Lead Pastor

Faith Community Church has begun a search for a Lead Pastor who will shepherd the congregation into the next chapter of life and love, one characterized by effective ministry to one another and the community.

Personal Qualifications—The Lead Pastor will:

• Be able to give testimony to his/her love for the Lord and call to pastoral ministry.

• Be a devoted follower of Jesus whose life reflects the fruit of the Spirit and whose passion is to understand and teach the truths of God’s Word.

• Enjoy engaging in thoughtful, open-minded discourse with a variety of people and their diverse opinions.

• Be an emotionally healthy person who loves people and is able to create and sustain positive relationships with them, especially with the children and youth.

• Meet or exceed the requirements for ordination as a Minister of the Word and Sacraments in the Christian Reformed Church in North America. Consequently, she or he will be ordained or be ordainable as such, though ordained individuals from other historically Reformed denominations will be considered.

Professional Competencies—The Lead Pastor will be:

• A gifted communicator, able to craft and deliver sermons that challenge and inspire both new and maturing Christians and able to engage with children and youth about the basics of the Christian faith.

• A gifted organizational leader with experience guiding a congregation into a new season of ministry, one that includes more effective engagement with residents in the community.

• A gifted pastor whose care for the spiritual well-being of the congregation is characterized by love and humility while being strengthened by discernment and prayer.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Preaching/Teaching—the Lead Pastor is responsible for the bulk of the preaching and will have opportunity to teach, with the first priority being the youth.

• Corporate Worship—the Lead Pastor is responsible for the planning and delivery of engaging, life-transforming worship services. The Lead Pastor is supported by a Worship and Creative Director (currently vacant).

• Leadership/Management—the Lead Pastor will equip the saints for the work of the ministry and partner with the Council towards the embrace of a compelling vision and mission, as well as the adoption and implementation of effective strategic initiatives.

• Pastoral Care—the Lead Pastor will provide timely spiritual direction and pastoral care for those seeking baptism, profession of faith, church membership, marriage, healing, and encouragement, as well as for those suffering the loss of love.

• Public Presence—the Lead Pastor has the privilege of representing the congregation in the broader community.

Supervisory Relationships:

• The Lead Pastor reports to and is accountable to the Council.

• The Lead Pastor leads, manages, and coaches the staff.

Today we are blessed to have a lovely campus in New Jersey on the Wyckoff/Franklin Lakes border – it is a privilege to have such inviting facilities for worship and outreach. Our main building houses our worship space, our offices, a fellowship hall, and a full kitchen. Our Barn is a former dairy barn renovated as a multi-purpose facility and is great for small events and meetings. Our Parsonage is just steps up the hill, overlooking the campus. And we share our property with the bustling Eastern Christian Middle School. It can be a busy place!
