Job Description: Financial Accountant

The FINANCIAL ACCOUNTANT will
Work with the Rector and Parish Administrator in carrying out the mission and vision of Christ Episcopal Church, and setting a professional, enthusiastic, caring Christian tone for ministry.
Oversee the church general ledger and financial records, preparing related forms and reports as necessary.
Ensure the church finances are in accord with legal, ethical, and biblical standards.
Plan, organize, direct, coordinate, and control the activities of the Finance Department.

• Position: Financial Accountant
• Supervisor: Chief of Staff (also accountable to CEC Treasurer)
• Ministry Target: Christ Episcopal Church of San Antonio and Christ Episcopal Church Endowment
• Hours: Full time – Flexible days
• FLSA Status: Exempt from overtime pay
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
Financial
• Prepare quarterly sales tax returns as needed.
• Approve and code all accounts payable transactions and provide to the Office Manager to print checks.
• Reconcile all bank and investment accounts.
• Verify contributions inputted into the Shelby database by Office Manager and input all other sources of income.
• Maintain the general ledger (enter/post necessary journal entries every month) for both Christ Episcopal Church and Christ Episcopal Church Endowment, Inc.
• Produce monthly financials and various reports needed by Treasurer and ministry leaders and assist with budgetary questions and concerns.
• Serve as point of contact for staff and parishioners in regards to Finances.
• Assist Parish Administrator, Treasurer, and Ministry Leaders with annual budget planning and preparation.
• Maintain all current and archived records of income, payroll, and other financial information.
Human Resources
• Prepare quarterly payroll tax returns for Christ Episcopal Church for Clergy
• Oversee payroll, time clock and benefits administration via our PEO
• Maintain all payroll and employee records ensuring confidentiality.
Team Building Responsibilities/Duties
• Attend weekly full staff meetings, quarterly Endowment meetings, and budgetary Vestry meetings, along with any other meetings related to job assignments.
• Actively share responsibilities of the church staff as needed, perform related duties, and fulfill responsibilities designated by the Parish Administrator.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a accounting or
• Five years of related accounting experience, preferably with non-profit fund accounting
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
• Microsoft Excel and Word
• Experience in Full Charge Bookkeeping (mandatory)
• Experience in Payroll and Human Resources (mandatory)
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE PREFERRED
• Familiarity with database management systems ex. Shelby Database System (general ledger, payroll and contributions modules)
• Excellent organizational, analytical and reporting skills
• Detail oriented
• Able to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines
• Self-starter and “take charge” personality that shows initiative
• Possess a “whatever it takes” attitude
• Willingness to join a praying Christian staff in team ministry
FULL-TIME SALARY AND BENEFITS
Annual Salary: $65,000 – 75,000 commensurate with experience
Vacation: 4 weeks
Pension: 5 – 9% of salary
Medical, Dental, Vision Insurance: 90% by employer
Sick Leave: 7 days annually, rollover up to 40 days
Life Insurance: $50,000 with opportunity to purchase more
CEC Holidays: 13 days planned*
New Year’s Eve – ½ day, New Year’s Day, MLK, Good Friday – ½ day, Easter Monday, Fiesta Friday, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Friday, Christmas Eve – ½ day, Christmas Day) * May adjust at Chief of Staff’s discretion
