Director of Music Ministries (Shared Role)

Summary:

Seeking a dynamic Director of Music Ministries to lead choral and worship music programs for First Presbyterian Church Mesa and Gilbert Presbyterian Church. This shared, part-time role (20-30 hours/week) involves planning and directing adult and handbell choirs, selecting music, leading rehearsals, and coordinating worship elements with pastors. The candidate will manage volunteers, budgets, and music assets, ensure copyright compliance, and align music with liturgical themes. Requires strong choral conducting skills, knowledge of sacred music, and excellent communication and time-management abilities. Must travel between churches (6 miles apart) and coordinate schedules to avoid conflicts.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan and direct sanctuary choirs, handbell choirs, and other vocal groups.
• Select and arrange music to suit each church’s worship style.
• Coordinate music with pastors, including special programs and liturgical themes.
• Recruit, train, and lead volunteers, fostering an inclusive music community.
• Manage music budgets, assets, and copyright compliance.
• Collaborate with technology teams for audio/video worship needs.
• Balance time and travel between both churches.

Required Skills & Qualities:

• Proficient in vocal sacred performance, choral conducting, and rehearsal techniques.
• Knowledge of musical literature, history, and copyright laws.
• Mature Christian faith, committed to community-building and self-care.
• Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills.
• Reliable transportation for travel between churches (13-minute commute).

Special Notes:

• Must coordinate schedules to avoid conflicts and arrange substitutes for absences.
• Reports to Pastor/Head of Staff and joint Personnel Committee.
