Job Description

ABOUT THE ASSOCIATE PASTOR

The Associate Pastor will ensure all ministry activities and organizational activities of the church support the overall mission of Heatherwood Baptist Church. He will directly report to the Senior Pastor (or designee). The primary role of this position is to support the ministry of the church by providing structure and leadership in the administration of the church’s affairs. In addition, this role provides direct leadership to the development and management of discipleship ministries of the church. In many ways, this role is like that of an executive pastor. This role also includes weekend teaching/preaching 4– 6 times a year. The successful candidate will exhibit strong communication, leadership, and administrative gifts.

Essential Roles Responsibilities:

  • Uphold the Mission and Vision of Heatherwood Baptist Church.

  • Build and develop the volunteer teams which consist of committed and gifted volunteers.

  • Oversee Groups at Heatherwood. This includes Sunday School, Small Groups, and Discipleship Groups. Support the recruiting and training of group leaders that result in a thriving group ministry.

  • Organize and maintain consistent outreach activities to our community, including cooperation with Western, Georgia Baptist Mission Board, and Southern Baptist Convention.

  • Lead alongside the Sr. Pastor in long-range planning and strategies to grow and multiply ministry efforts.

  • Aid the Sr. Pastor in providing necessary administration to the ministries of the church.

  • Oversee a comprehensive first-time guest process that leads to a sustainable and effective membership process.

  • Explore and recommend other avenues to broaden our church’s reach (livestream, radio, tv, etc.).

  • Oversee a comprehensive communication strategy for our church.

  • Partner with the Sr. Pastor, Finance Team, and Personnel Team to build and present an annual church budget.

  • Lead alongside the Finance Team, Personnel Team, and the deacons in a way that promotes unity and accomplishment of the church’s mission.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Educational and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required

  • Master’s Degree preferred

  • Three to five years (3-5) of experience in church ministry

  • Volunteer team development experience preferred
