Position Summary:

The Children’s Ministry Engagement Coordinator is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with staff, volunteers and families to ensure a successful Children’s Ministry program. This position develops the volunteer/servant team that collaborates with the Children’s Ministry staff to create relevant evangelism, discipleship, fellowship, service, and worship experiences that engage people to grow their relationship with Jesus Christ through the leading of the Holy Spirit.

Job Location: Naperville, IL

Hours: 40 hours per week including Tuesday evenings, Sunday mornings, and some additional nights/weekends for special events.

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church focuses on serving the spiritual needs of our local community and leveraging the time, talents and financial resources of people in this area, to help others in our community, across the nation, and around the world. Good Shepherd has over 20 employees and about 700 active members who attend weekly. We also have over 15 different ministries to connect with members of the church ranging from children, teens, and adults as well as focused ministries such as grief support and mental health awareness. Responsibilities:

·        Overall:

·        Collaborate with Children’s Ministry Team and the Family Life Team to ensure effective relational development between staff, families, and children as it relates to the mission, vision, and core values of the church.

·        Assist in providing opportunities for children to grow as disciples in Christ as they study, serve, worship, pray, and share their faith with others.

·        Contribute to the care, maintenance, cleanliness, policies/procedures, and security/safety of children.

·        Serve as point of contact for all families with children ages birth-5th grade.

·        Sunday Morning:

·        Execute Sunday morning programming

·        Recruit, onboard, and train a volunteer team to lead Sunday morning programming including, but not limited to, large group teaching, small group facilitation, worship/music, First Impressions, and nursery care

·        Continued mentoring, appreciating, and supporting of the volunteer team

·        Schedule and coordinate weekly volunteers as well as substitutes when necessary

·        Assess leader placement and reassign as necessary

·        Mid-Week 4th/5th Grade Ministry:

·        Modify and prepare curriculum for weekly teachings and execute midweek programming for 4th/5th grade

·        Recruit, onboard, and train a volunteer team to lead evening programming and special events

·        Plan, execute, and debrief service projects and special events

·        Special Events:

·        Coordinate and implement various ministry opportunities such as: Vacation Bible School, Easter Bash, Family Worship Services, etc.

·        Coordinate and implement faith milestones alongside Children’s Ministry Staff

·        Lead, coordinate, and implement Winter Camp geared toward 4th and 5th grade

·        Hire, train and schedule childcare workers who support church-wide ministry events such as new member classes, baptism classes, adult learning opportunities, small group gatherings, congregational meetings, and other special events

 

Requirements:

·        Completion of some college coursework and 2+ years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of training and experience

  • Personal relationship with Jesus Christ and commitment to disciple others
  • Ability to actively participate in the Good Shepherd faith community including worship, special events, and spiritual growth opportunities
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to attract, develop, and lead people and/or ministry teams
  • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Publisher, Excel, and PowerPoint)
