ABOUT THE POSITION

The Student Pastor is responsible for providing leadership, vision, and direction for a vibrant, comprehensive Christ-centered, age-appropriate Student Ministry for students (grades 6 – 12) and their parents/guardians. The Student Pastor is to introduce students to Jesus Christ, to disciple them in spiritual growth, and to train them to serve Him. The goal is to encourage students to become authentic followers of Jesus Christ for a lifetime.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

  1. Lead and organize an effective and relational Student Ministry focusing on our Mission, Core Values, and Strategy. Lay the foundation for students to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and to grow in wisdom.
  2. Build positive, meaningful, and authentic relationships with students and their families.
  3. Create, implement, and lead all aspects of the Student Ministry (e.g., Grow Groups, Mid-Week Groups, DNow, Retreats/Camps, Mission Trips, Special Events, In-reach, Outreach, Evangelism, Discipleship Training, and Fellowship). Encourage students to share, live out their faith, and serve the church and community. Address parents’ questions and concerns. Coordinate outreach ministry efforts to students and their families. Evaluate the effectiveness of current programs. Build and strengthen families by supporting other ministries within the church to build a comprehensive Family Ministry.
  4. Cultivate authentic partnerships with parents by communicating often, prayer, discipleship, and encouragement. Provide a space for parents to meet, engage, and grow. Equip, empower, and enable parents to live out their biblical calling as presented in Deuteronomy 6.
  5. Be an active presence in Hyde Park Schools and other local middle and high schools. Schedule weekly campus visits to interact with students.
  6. Identify, recruit, equip, direct, and empower a student and adult leadership team. Develop strategies to reward and recognize the leadership team. Provide resources and ongoing training for the team. Adhere to the Volunteer Application Process. Always enforce the Two-Adult Rule.
  7. Develop and implement a multi-channel strategy to create interest and promote weekly ministry activities and special events. Promote and manage an organized registration process for all activities. Maintain Registration Forms and Medical Release Forms in a secure file.
  8. Be available to the congregation, schools, and families for pastoral duties (e.g., baptisms, hospital visits, counseling, weddings, funerals, etc.).
  9. Coordinate resources with Hyde Park Schools and The Christian Life Center to reach students and families within our community.
  10. Demonstrate good stewardship of the facilities. Oversee the ministry’s budget and expenditures. Adhere to the HPBC Financial Policy (e.g., check request, purchase order, transmittal of funds, and expenses). Practice good fiscal management in the purchase of materials and supplies.
  11. Collaborate with the Children’s Ministry to create a smooth transition from the Children’s Ministry to the Student Ministry.
  12. Prepare students for challenges after graduation. Assist students in locating a new church home when away at college/university.
  13. Ensure the Student Ministry area is safe, clean, orderly, and prepared for all ministry activities.
  14. Pursue ongoing personal and professional development through reading, attending conferences, and networking.
  15. Meet regularly with the NextGen Pastor to report on the health and direction of the Student Ministry.
  16. Assist the NextGen Pastor and the Discipleship Pastor by performing other duties when requested.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  1. A vital and growing relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
  2. Passionately embody God’s Word through daily living, exhibiting a good moral character, and practicing regular Spiritual disciplines.
  3. Graduated from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in a related field (Seminary degree or training is preferred) plus three years of progressively responsible experience in a similar ministry or field.
  4. Must love and relate well to students and families and have a passion for evangelism, outreach, and teaching biblical truths.
  5. Be a skilled and passionate Bible-based teacher.
  6. A positive, outgoing personality who enjoys building and leading teams.
  7. Ability to recruit, manage, mentor, supervise, and lead others to embrace and fulfill a vision.
  8. Must have strong decision-making skills, excellent communication, organizational, and relational skills.
  9. A self-starter and effective multi-tasker who is a pro-active, detail-oriented, organized, enthusiastic servant leader.
  10. Possess strong computer literacy skills. Must have proven computer skills in Microsoft Office and is willing to learn new software programs if needed.
  11. Proven ability to handle sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality regarding church issues.
  12. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Adapts to a variety of changing events, schedules, and priorities. Able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Work is regularly performed in a church building, office, and outdoors.   2. Regularly required sitting at the computer or other office equipment.
  3. Exposure to varying extremes of cold and hot temperatures.
  4. Ability to use a vehicle to visit multiple campuses/activities.
  5. Flexible schedule due to non-standard hours based on ministry needs. May require split shifts on Sundays or for special ministry events.
  6. Other physical, mental, or visual abilities required by the job.
