About Us

Antioch Baptist Church, founded in 1903, has been a pillar of faith and service in the Newport News community for over 120 years. As we celebrate our rich heritage and look toward the future, we are prayerfully seeking a Senior Pastor to lead our congregation in continuing our mission of worship, discipleship, and community outreach. Following the retirement of our beloved pastor, we are excited to welcome a new spiritual leader who will honor our Baptist traditions while guiding us forward in faith.

Position Overview

We invite applications from candidates who are passionate about ministry, strong in leadership, and committed to fostering spiritual growth within our church and community. The ideal candidate will connect authentically with members of all ages, provide meaningful worship experiences, and offer guidance and support that extends beyond the church walls.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver biblically-sound, inspiring sermons for Sunday worship services and other occasions
• Lead weekly worship services, including Sunday morning services, Bible study, and special observances
• Provide pastoral care, counseling, and spiritual guidance to congregation members during times of joy, crisis, and everyday life
• Oversee and support the spiritual development and discipleship of the congregation
• Collaborate with church leadership and ministry teams to advance the mission and vision of the church
• Plan and coordinate community outreach initiatives and church events
• Represent the church in the community and maintain positive relationships with local ministries and organizations

Qualifications

• Ordination (or eligibility for ordination) within the Baptist tradition
• Previous pastoral ministry experience preferred
• Bachelor's and Master's Degree (M.Div. preferred) from an accredited institution
• Strong theological alignment with Baptist doctrine and practices
• Excellent preaching, teaching, and interpersonal communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to shepherd a diverse congregation and work collaboratively with church leadership
• Commitment to the values, mission, and vision of Antioch Baptist Church
• Successfully complete background check in compliance with federal and state law
