Student Pastor (middle & high school) at healthy church in Eastern NC.

Grace Fellowship Church

Job Description

Are you interested in leading a student ministry that is growing and healthy? We've enjoyed solid leadership for over 7 years in a student ministry that is gospel-centered, highly relational, welcoming, and fun! If you like being part of seeing lives changed, building relationships with students and leaders, and investing in this generation, reach out to us! We have a great team of adult volunteers investing in our students right now.

This group of 40-50 students meet weekly on Sunday nights along with small groups during the week and numerous other gatherings to grow, hang, and share life!

Some ministry experience preferred. See full job description below.

Kinston is a small town of about 20,000 located about 1hr from the beach. It's a great place to raise a family & get plugged into the community! Affordable cost of living is a plus.

Grace is a non-denominational church of about 400 committed to biblical discipleship, expository preaching, and relational ministry.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

I. Snapshot of Grace & area of ministry:

Grace is an active, non-denominational congregation of about 400 people. Our student ministry is enjoying a time of great leadership by a solid team of volunteers. The formal ministry to youth consists of:

(a) The Mill on Sunday nights (large group time: fun, relationships, Worship & Word);

(b) Life-on-Life groups (bible studies led by various adults at Grace in age- & gender-specific groups);

(c) Retreats, special events, service projects, etc. through the school year;

(d) Summer week of Camp in Western NC (Snowbird Wilderness Outfitters).

II. Requirements of Candidates

• An active pursuit of God, evidenced through consistent, vibrant quiet times and family worship.

• A willing and teachable spirit; humble & approachable by students, parents, & leaders

• A godly & consistent lifestyle, representing Christ and his Kingdom with integrity. Part of this includes a relationship with your spouse that brings honor to Christ.

• Strength in core-competencies (being relatable, able to motivate leaders, willing to cast vision, able to plan & administrate, and most importantly being comfortable and

convincing in communicating the truths of the Word); an honest assessment of the areas that aren’t strengths and a desire to grow in them.

• Excellence in all aspects of service, as unto the King.

• Leadership/proficiency in Social Media: Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc.

• Becoming a full part of the Grace Family: full embrace of GFC’s doctrine, governance and core values; submitting to the elders; financially supporting Grace; being part of a

HouseChurch family; growing in relationship apart from ministry acquaintances.

III. Responsibilities for Student Ministries

Lead the highly invested Student Ministry team (Currently 7 highly motivated and gifted adults). Lead the Discipleship of Grace students as they grow in Christ. Spearhead their

Deployment to reach their friends.

• Vision & Planning: Know where you want to take this group of students, and lay out steps to get there. Understand the dynamics of the annual calendar cycle, of having

4+ different types of schools (public, private, Christian, Homeschool) we’re drawingfrom, of being a regional church in a smaller town, and of having two vibrant campus ministry partners (FCA & Young Life).

• Motivating & Mobilizing: Understand that the ministry will rise or fall on the number and quality of the volunteer leaders. Thus, ensure that the team of leaders is well-motivated, encouraged and resourced.

• Relating, Enjoying & Confronting: Time with students is time to build bridges & trust, to express the love of Christ toward them, and to provide a safe and caring place for the deep issues of maturity. Plan compelling experiences, but also show up “on their turf” frequently—sports sidelines, shows & events.

• Teaching & Coaching: Much growth comes by speaking the Words of Life from Scripture, either in conversation or in teaching/small group settings. Bring a fresh word from God for these students each week.

• Life on Life: Expand the network of small-group bible studies throughout the week (1 Grace adult with 4-6 students). Motivate and encourage LoL leaders.

• Worldview & Scripture: Work towards the formation of a biblical worldview in each student, based on the person of Christ at work in this world, and on the truths that arise out of all Scripture.

IV. Background Music – Things Grace recognizes, lives into, strives for.

• We are FOR Christ because Christ is FOR us. Thus our teaching & planning must be Gospel-saturated. The gospel is the greatest expression of God’s commitment to us. There is no room for “moral, therapeutic, deism.”

• Students (especially) trust over time; time comes by students being present/involved; which happens when it’s a compelling experience with real relationships. Thus we plan weekly Mill gathering, Retreats, Life on Life & mission trips as compellingly as we can, that ultimately, students might grow in confidence in the Lord.

• Kids are kids, and stuff is going to happen. There will be cliques, there will be stupid decisions, there will be grievous results at times. We will not base our ministry on the externals, but on the internal work of cultivating a heart for God in each student.

Reports to the Lead Pastor. Full-time – 50 Hours/week.
