Part-Time Worship Leader

Location: Sowebo Community Church, Southwest Baltimore

$350 per week. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

About Us:

Sowebo Community Church is an independent, neighborhood-based, family-focused church serving the culturally rich and diverse communities of Southwest Baltimore. Our mission is to be a multiethnic, multicultural body of believers living out the love of Christ through worship, fellowship, cultural reconciliation, community development, and discipleship. We are located in a majority African American community with a growing Hispanic demographic, and we value authentic worship that reflects the diversity of our neighborhood.

Position Overview:

We seek a passionate, musically gifted, and spiritually grounded Part-Time Worship Leader to support our current worship leader in guiding our congregation in meaningful worship experiences that reflect our vision of being a multiethnic and multicultural church. This role involves leading worship, supporting the development of a small choir, helping with children’s special events, and participating in practices and services—the ability to play gospel and CCM music. Proficiency in Spanish is preferred to help bridge our diverse congregation. 

Responsibilities: (If you don't feel confident in all, still please apply)

• Plan and lead worship 1-2 times per month, incorporating various musical styles reflective of our community’s diversity.
• Participate in and contribute to weekly worship practices.
• Help develop a small choir for periodic performances.
• Support and lead a children’s choir for special events or services approximately four times yearly.
• Play 1-2 instruments proficiently to support the worship team.
• Collaborate with the pastor and other leaders to ensure worship aligns with the church’s mission and sermon themes.
• Foster an inclusive worship environment that welcomes and celebrates the cultural backgrounds of our congregation.
• Build relationships with congregants and invite participation in music ministry.
• Understand and manage a soundboard, including hookups and troubleshooting fundamental audio issues. Train others on how to hook up audio equipment.
• Set up and supervise audio technology once a month.

• A vibrant and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
• Strong musical skills, including leading vocally and playing multiple instruments (e.g., guitar, piano, percussion).
• Experience in leading worship in a church or similar setting.
• The ability to communicate and lead in Spanish is preferred.
• Heart for diversity and reconciliation in a multicultural and multiethnic setting.
• Skills in choir direction and music arrangement are a plus.
• Collaborative spirit and willingness to work with a diverse team.
• Passion for community engagement and serving a neighborhood-focused, family-oriented ministry.
• Experience Using the Planning Center Online team collaboration platform. 
• Local to Baltimore City (preferred)

Hours and Compensation:

This part-time position requires approximately 10–15 hours per week, including preparation, practice, and Sunday worship.
