Crossroads United Methodist Church is a vibrant, growing faith community located in Ashburn, Virginia located 30 miles outside of Washington, D.C. The Worship & Arts Director at Crossroads will be a creative, confident generator of new ideas; lead vibrant, authentic, and joyful worship experiences; and have experience in building teams that lead and support worship.
Job Overview
The Worship & Arts Director is responsible for the oversight of worship experiences and serving as a resource for other ministries in all elements of music, sound, technical, and creative arts. The position is vital to cultivating and leading vibrant, authentic, joyful worship experiences. The Worship Director is responsible for recruiting, encouraging, and equipping volunteers with musical and other creative arts gifts and abilities to serve.
The Director must embrace the Crossroads mission to welcome all and cultivate an environment of enthusiastic service and outreach in the community.
Essential Functions
· Oversight of all worship experiences including weekend services, seasonal experiences, and other worship related gatherings.
· Lead a creative worship team to ensure creative worship elements including platform design, relevant music, spoken word, drama,
testimonies, and other innovative expressions.
· Intentionally reach out and connect with individuals in the congregation and the local community to recruit volunteer musicians
and vocalists. Provide spiritual guidance and technical training for those who have a heart to lead worship experiences.
· Build and oversee the technical teams including sound, media, videos, graphics, etc. Work with the teams to make sure they
understand the scope of their work and have the resources needed to support creative worship experiences.
· Create events that help grow Crossroads and connect the local community. Support events such as open mic nights, concerts, and
connection with music programs at local high schools/colleges.
· Provide expertise and support regarding summer camp, student & kid’s music teams, weddings, and funerals.
· Provide direction and supervision for paid worship and tech team staff members.
· Update and maintain Planning Center.
· Maintain licensing and association subscriptions.
· Oversee the organization and maintenance of worship supplies and equipment.
· Develop and manage the annual budget for worship ministries.
Education and Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree and/or advance degree in a related field.
· Three to five years of experience in a related field. Preference for those with demonstrated experience in leading teams, supporting
staff, and organizing volunteers.
· A gifted musician and vocalist with skills in playing a lead musical instrument, either keyboard, guitar, or both.
· Possess a strong general music knowledge in order to train and lead other musicians and vocalists.
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
· Excellent planning and organizational skills.
· A warm and positive affirmer of others.
· Proficient computer skills.
Working Conditions/Physical/Mental Demands
A combination of working in a seated position in a professional office setting and standing for extended periods of time. Will routinely use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, scanners, photocopies, and filing cabinets. Must be able to regularly talk and hear, stand, walk, use hands and fingers for computer and office equipment handle or feel and reach with hands and arms, frequently bend and stoop when necessary to complete job duties.
Requires the ability to learn, remember, focus, categorize, and integrate information for problem-solving, comprehension, and decision-making. Will need to complete tasks independently, remember processes, and complete work to meet deadlines. Requires the ability to work Sundays and some nights to support events.
