About the Role: 

The ideal candidate must be a SERVANT LEADER in philosophy and practice. They must have a blend of strong CHRISTIAN VALUES, a heart for service, and a successful record of accomplishments as a Pianist for traditional, contemporary, and modern worship music and choral direction in the music ministry.  

This Music Ministry support role will partner with others to serve and work cooperatively, under the direction of the Pastors and Worship Leader, with members of the Music Ministry team, event coordinators, and other ministry leaders to deliver exciting and spirit-filled modern worship experience.  

The Music Ministry support role's priority will be supporting the Music Team vocalists and musicians on Sunday mornings, Christmas Eve, Good Friday services and Music Team rehearsals on Wednesday nights and Sunday morning before worship service. Additionally, this person will help teach and lead choral arrangements, teach vocal parts for traditional hymns, contemporary and modern worship music. They will make recommendations for elevating the choral experience by creating and teaching vocal parts when they are not written for contemporary and newer songs. Candidates must be musically trained (e.g., read music, play by ear, play embellishments to written chord notes, correctly teach vocal parts, direct, and conduct as needed for choral anthems and seasonal programs), musically creative, and able to understand and play music from various genres and generations (e.g., praise and worship, gospel, contemporary Christian, liturgical, traditional hymns, etc.). Additionally, this person will lead choral anthems for Sunday morning worship when scheduled. This person will also need to plan and orchestrate seasonal cantatas and services, e.g., Easter, Patriotic and Christmas. This person can help plan and execute community musical experiences at venues around the community, e.g., festivals, nursing homes, community centers, etc.

  • Must have experience in working within congregational worship services or choral group musical ministry as a pianist who can play from sheet music and guitar lead sheets adding chord note embellishments as appropriate to modernize traditional songs and hymns. 
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify, recruit, and develop skills for potential volunteer members for singing various vocal parts. 
  • Ability to work with people of different gifts and abilities. 
  • Have an understanding or experience of team worship instead of a “one person” presentation. 
  • Proven leadership skills utilizing a cooperative, collaborative team leadership style.  
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain healthy and motivating relationships with supervisors, coworkers, and volunteers. 

 

Specific and Secondary Duties  

Choral Direction and Planning  

  • Provide support for choral / singing arrangements as the pianist on Sunday mornings, Good Friday, Christmas Eve and any other events where a pianist is needed for music If the scope of this position changes, e.g., additional Sunday morning services, special events, etc., they shall be discussed, and additional compensation will be considered. 
  • Collaboratively work with the Pastors and Worship Leader to plan and organize worship services with an emphasis on choral direction and piano accompany. 
  • Participate in Wednesday night Music Ministry Team rehearsals and provide choral support and teaching of all vocal parts to the Music Team Vocalists as needed. 
  • Play piano on Sundays, Wednesday rehearsals and other needed special musical events. 
  • Assist with coordination of all choral music materials like sheet music and part learning tracks.  
  • Recruit volunteer musicians and vocalists for Music Ministry Team and Seasonal Choirs. 
  • Obtain evaluations of the service from the Lead Pastor(s), Ministry Directors, Worship Leader, congregation, and surrounding community; give feedback to the pastors and Worship Coordinator and other departments as appropriate. 
  • May present special event ideas to Leadership for approval with planning and budget approval.  
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

Administrative Duties  

  • Apply a working and growing knowledge of worship music and blended worship styles. 
  • Learn or apply existing knowledge of Planning Center Services software for order of service coordination and execution. 

 

Outreach Duties  

  • Pursue opportunities to use music and worship as a vehicle for evangelism beyond our church walls. All must be presented and approved by Leadership before executing. 
  • Present these opportunities to Pastor(s) and Leadership Council with applicable soft and hard cost budget needs.
