Friendship Church – Lexington is a historic but newly formed evangelical church that is seeking the pastor that God is calling to lead us in the future. Our desire is to be a church that fulfills the Great Commission and the Great Commandment. To that end, we are seeking a pastor that will fulfill the qualifications, responsibilities, and expectations that are listed below.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will:
• Be able to give a clear testimony of the saving grace of Jesus Christ in his life and a calling to the pastoral ministry.
• According to the Bylaws of Friendship Church – Lexington, Article V, Section 5.01, the pastor shall be an ordained minister of the gospel. He shall be in alignment with the Statement of Beliefs of Friendship Church – Lexington and live according to God’s Word.
• Possess a deep personal relationship with Jesus Christ evidenced in daily life and exhibit the qualities outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, and 1 Peter 5:1-4.
• According to the Bylaws of Friendship Church – Lexington, Article V, Section 5.03, a pastor candidate must be licensed and his diploma must be from an accredited institution of higher education (Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in religious studies).
• Demonstrate a passionate, heartfelt love for people with a Christ-like concern for their spiritual, physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Through empowering of the Holy Spirit, he must seek to make and develop disciples of Jesus Christ who love God and serve people.
• Be an excellent communicator and visionary in leadership including supervision and mentoring of staff.
• Earnestly seek God’s will above all other possible motivations.
• Be approachable and effective, working with others with great love, maturity, humbleness, and transparency, including the giftedness needed to draw people beyond their spiritual comfort zone and an awareness of and ability to engage with different people from different backgrounds.
• Be an inspiring and challenging preacher and teacher with sermons that make the gospel relevant to the lives of individuals. In addition, he must also be God-fearing, demonstrate an enthusiastic love for Christ, possess and apply a comprehensive knowledge of the Bible, have a clearly defined vision for the church, and provide leadership in developing a vision and direction for the future. Finally, he will lead the congregation as we strive to reach new members and young families.
• Be a lifelong learner – someone who is committed to spiritual growth through conferences, continuing education, and personal growth. He will not stop learning after leaving seminary.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
• According to the Bylaws of Friendship Church – Lexington, Article V, Section 5.01, the pastor shall preach God’s Word at Sunday worship services, spend time in Bible study, devotion, and prayer in preparation for worship and other church events, meet regularly with church committees and church members and attendees, including shut-ins and homebound members, and be available for counseling if/as needed. In addition, the pastor will conduct Baptisms, Communion, weddings, and funerals. The pastor will be a leader in discipleship and evangelism. The pastor may have other duties as necessary and assigned.
• Work alongside the church secretary.
• Work alongside the Elder Council to provide direction, leadership, and a vision for the church.
• Motivate, equip, and nurture the people of the church through example, preaching and teaching God’s Word, and spiritual counseling.
• Work alongside the Deacon Council to provide pastoral care for the sick/hospitalized, elderly, and hurting/grieving.
• Work alongside the Elder Council to oversee church discipline and manage conflict in the church. The successful candidate will seek to reconcile relationships and promote unity within the church.
• Participate in evangelism efforts, discipleship efforts, outreach efforts, and lead in worship during regular and special services.
• Work with various ministries (Elder Council, Deacon Council, Administrative Council, Worship Committee, Finance Committee, and Trustees) in accomplishing their respective duties.
• Lead in observance of the ordinances of the church (Baptism and Communion).
• Seek God’s direction and develop His vision for the church in a way that maximizes the gifts and resources available. The successful candidate will seek to find new ways and additional resources to accomplish God’s plan for the church.
• Provide a plan for a qualified person to conduct services during his absence for vacation, sickness, etc.
Expectations
The successful candidate will:
• Maintain a personal commitment in his relationship with Jesus Christ.
• Lead his family according to God’s Word.
• Serve as the spiritual and administrative leader of the church and work in a spirit of cooperation with the Elders, Deacons, and other ministries to meet the needs of the congregation and administration and management of church operations.
• Develop and deliver engaging, Biblical, and theologically-based sermons.
• Manage the congregational organization through planning, decision-making, delegating, evaluating, and managing conflict and stress.
• Collaborate with the Elder Council to provide appropriate spiritual leadership. Collaborate with the Deacon Council to provide pastoral care to the congregation and support small group ministries.

Friendship Church - Lexington is located in a rural, farming community just outside of Lexington, NC in Davidson County. Friendship is a nonprofit corporation organized exclusively for religious purposes. It is a religious corporation of Christian believers in the triune God who have answered the call of the Holy Spirit to follow Jesus in a confused and lost world. Those who become members of Friendship join in our mission to make committed followers of Jesus who honor and serve God by sharing His love.
The purpose for which Friendship was formed is to reach our community and beyond for Jesus, in union with other followers from other churches, joined together in Kingdom work. Our vow to one another as members of Friendship Church – Lexington is to walk with each other through the difficult times in life without fear of judgement while discerning God’s truths through His Word, and to celebrate with one another through the victories of life.
Friendship is a place where all are welcomed and have the opportunity to discover and grow in their relationship with the living God. Our life together consists of the following:
a) Sunday worship where God is exalted, fellowship is experienced, gifts are given, and the Word is proclaimed.
b) Small groups and classes where we focus on the details of our individual relationships with God and with those around us, work on areas of struggle,
experience loving accountability, and share in the daily lives of fellow followers.
c) Outreach opportunities where we show God's love in practical ways through acts of kindness.
