Job Description

OVERVIEW

The Executive Pastor provides leadership, administrative functions, accountability and oversight to support and enhance the ministries of the church. The Executive Pastor is responsible for leading ministry positions, administrative staff, support staff and others in executing the vision of our church. This position is a committed Christian with experience leading organizations by creating systems and processes that help those organizations achieve their goals.


RESPONSIBILITIES

The Executive Pastor reports to the Senior Pastor with indirect reporting to the Personnel Committee and the Board of Deacons. The Executive Pastor is responsible for the supervision of multiple personnel including, but not limited to, the Director of Communications, Director of Facility Operations, Personnel and Finance Ministry Assistant, Transportation Coordinator, Food Services Manager, and others. (The organizational chart of Snyder Memorial Baptist Church serves as a reference point for supervisory responsibilities.)


The following are the responsibilities of the Executive Pastor:


1) Support and executes the vision of the Senior Pastor

• Collaborate with Senior Pastor to identify and implement the mission and vision of Snyder Memorial Baptist Church.

• Serve with pastoral staff team; attend staff meetings; contribute to evaluation and direction of ministries.

• Facilitate an annual evaluation of the staff and systems for optimal effectiveness of the church.

• Assist with pastoral duties - calls, visits, participation in worship - as assigned (Executive Pastor must be ordained to perform these duties. If not ordained upon hire, must be ordained within 3 years from the date of hire.)

• Serve as part of the church’s leadership team, helping to set the long-term objectives and strategies of the church.


2) Manage and leads the everyday activities of the administrative church staff under the authority of the Senior Pastor

• Supervise administrative staff in a way that maximizes ministry effectiveness.

• Play an integral role in personnel decisions within the church staff.

• Align the ministries and departments of the church around the church’s purpose statement.

• Set office procedures and coordinate the work of the office staff.

• Determines and implements appropriate technology to increase office and other administrative areas of increased efficiencies to include appointment scheduling, calendar updating, invoice and reconciliation efforts, and payroll.

• Provides annual performance evaluations for all non-ministerial staff serving as direct reports to this position. Oversees those evaluations for those in the reporting chain to the Executive Pastor.


3) Lead and implement the church’s budgeting and financial planning processes

• Receives and records income and prepares budget requests for the church, Snyder Learning Center and Music Academy.

• Produces reports to appropriate persons and committees upon request.

• Approves and oversees payment of invoices for church, Snyder Learning Center and Music Academy according to church budget and policies.

• Approves and oversees payroll to include church, day care and after school payroll as well as files state and federal payroll taxes.

• Reviews and provides access to all human resources benefits functions associated therein to include PTOs, insurance, 401K etc.

• Conducts or ensures criminal background checks on all staff and volunteers who work with children, or in other positions as required.

• Produces and files monthly, quarterly and annual forms and reports.

• Monitor budget expenditures and give reports to other committees as requested.

• Oversee the maintenance of financial records to be submitted for annual audit.

• Negotiate terms of loans and account services.

• Gives staff leadership to the Snyder Foundation Board.


4) Work with the Facilities/Maintenance Staff and related committees and teams to maintain the church’s property. Oversees:

• Regular, periodic, special and contracted cleaning maintenance for interior and exterior of buildings and equipment.

• Reservations and setup of rooms, furniture and equipment for regular and special events.

• Work with project coordinators and outside contractors on major projects.

• The operation of and/or perform, monitor or oversee the operation and maintenance of the various systems throughout the church – electrical, plumbing/storm drains, lighting, computers/network, HVAC, fire alarm, security, clock/carillon, elevators, irrigation, emergency medical supplies.

• Negotiation and monitoring of maintenance contracts and equipment leases.

• Supervising leasing and maintenance of church-owned properties.

• Evaluating nearby properties for possible purchase.

• Manage the maintenance, scheduling, licensing and inspections of the vehicles.

• In coordination with Learning Center and the Transportation Committee, advise and recommend for the purchase and/or replacement of vehicles.


5) Create systems and processes that further the church’s ministry objectives.


6) Maintain an awareness of current trends and best practices within ministries of comparable size.


7) Any other duties and responsibilities as assigned through the Senior Pastor reflecting Executive Pastor leadership or related directly or indirectly to the position.


REQUIREMENTS

• A growing personal relationship with Christ.

• Stated willingness to operate within our church’s statement of beliefs and purpose.

• A lifestyle congruent with the biblical requirements for leaders (1 Tim. 3:1-13; 2 Tim. 2; Titus 1:5-9).

• At least 10 years of experience managing teams in either the church or business world

• Excellent verbal communicator: Comfortable speaking before large groups of people.

• Able to speak the truth in love and deal wisely with conflict amongst the staff and the broader church.

• A bachelor’s degree in business, ministry leadership, or 10 plus years in a related field.

• Willingness to use technology to help the church further its ministry goals

• Ability to engage people of all generations in the ministry of the church.

• A calling to pastoral ministry.

• Ensures that the church constitution is followed in all matters.
