About the Role

The Executive Minister serves as a key member of the senior leadership team at The BLVD, reporting directly to the Senior Pastor. This role is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day execution of ministry programs and operations in alignment with the church’s vision and mission. In close collaboration with the Senior Pastor, the Executive Minister provides guidance and support to the ministerial team, spiritual officers, and ministry leaders to ensure effective implementation of The BLVD’s ministry goals.

 

Scope of Leadership

While the Senior Pastor provides preaching, vision, and spiritual direction, the Executive Minister is responsible for translating that vision into operational reality. This includes overseeing ministry execution, staffing, systems, policies, and key strategic initiatives to ensure that all ministries operate with excellence and integrity.

 

Key leadership functions include:

  • Monitoring ministry performance and outcomes to ensure alignment with church goals.
  • Supporting the recruitment, development, and retention of highly qualified staff.
  • Leading processes related to hiring, staff reviews, goal-setting, and budgeting.
  • Ensuring quality assurance in ministry operations and strong working relationships across teams.
  • Collaborating on special projects and the implementation of church-wide plans and strategies.
  • Operationalizing the vision and direction of the Senior Pastor across all areas of ministry.


Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Senior Pastor to implement The BLVD’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities.
  • Oversee the daily ministry operations, ensuring alignment with gospel values and church goals.
  • Lead and develop the ministerial team, spiritual officers, and ministry leaders.
  • Facilitate strategic planning and goal-setting processes for church-wide and ministry-specific initiatives.
  • Support pastoral functions (e.g., worship leadership, preaching schedules, visitations, weddings, funerals).
  • Create systems to assess the spiritual health and effectiveness of ministries.
  • Equip and train lay leaders, Elders, and Diaconate through regular engagement and development.
  • Lead new ministry start-up processes and provide structure for growth.
  • Collaborate with the Comptroller to manage church finances and develop mission-aligned budgets.


Education & Experience

  • Master of Divinity (MDiv) from an accredited seminary or MBA with strong ministry leadership background
  • 6+ years in pastoral ministry or church-related leadership roles
  • 4+ years in supervisory/organizational leadership with proven staff and volunteer development experience
  • Ordained or ordainable in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) within 2 years
