Job Description

The student minister is responsible for shepherding the spiritual needs of middle and high school students, fostering their growth in faith, community, and service. He is to develop a discipleship program of education and activities in an atmosphere of spiritual growth, by planning, conducting, and evaluating the on-going student ministry of the church. His strategy will fall in line with the mission, vision, and strategy of the church and the Senior Pastor. The student minister is responsible for activities, policies, and procedures that relate to this area of ministry. The student minister is also to complement and assist parents in being lead disciple-makers in their children’s lives. He is to lead and assist the students under his care into genuine faith of their own in Jesus Christ.


JOB REQUIREMENTS: 


-         Be a passionate follower of Jesus Christ with a clear call/desire to work in youth ministry and be in full agreement with Baptist Faith and Message 2000.

-         A Bachelor’s degree with Theological emphasis, or the equivalent, in a related field is preferred, but some seminary training and/or ongoing seminary education in process will be considered as well as experience with leading and ministering to youth.

-         Be licensed and ordained or be willing to be ordained as prescribed by the standards of 1 Timothy 3:1-7.

-         Be able to develop a youth ministry rooted in making disciples who are fully prepared for the next phase of life.

-         Be able to preach under the direction of the Senior Pastor or interim pastor when as needed.

-         Be willing to submit to a criminal and financial background check before starting work.


Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop a youth ministry rooted in making disciples who are fully prepared for the next phase of life.

• Counsel with the church staff in developing a strategy to disciple students. This also includes recruiting, training, and empowering ministry leaders.

• Conduct and evaluate the student ministry.

• Plan, promote and lead:

o Weekly age-related discipleship on Wednesday evenings / Sunday mornings including the selection of Biblical curriculum.

o Youth outreach program, and evaluation progress of students.

o A dynamic calendar of events such as summer camps, retreats, short-term mission trips, conferences, social gatherings and community- wide student ministry events to reach the unsaved / unchurched students.

o Activities that foster fellowship, worship and service within the church and community.

• Build relationships with students and address their needs.

• Engage and build relationships with parents / guardians to keep them informed & involved in their student’s individual growth. Have events that include parents and always have time to talk with parents about their concerns for their children.

• Take opportunities to witness to the students about their relationship with the Lord and follow up with spiritual decisions made by the students.
