Position Overview

The Lead Pastor serves as the primary spiritual leader of Central City Church, responsible for preaching, teaching, shepherding, and leading the congregation in alignment with Scripture and the church’s essential beliefs. This role requires a man called by God, qualified by Scripture, and committed to servant leadership as modeled by Jesus Christ.

Doctrinal Alignment & Biblical Conviction

The Lead Pastor must fully affirm and consistently teach the essential beliefs of Central City Church (as outlined on the church website).

He must demonstrate unwavering commitment to biblical truth and doctrinal integrity.

Key Scripture:

“Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers…” — 2 Corinthians 6:14 (NIV)

• Must not compromise on core theological convictions
• Must currently teach and model these beliefs in his present ministry context
• Must hold firmly to sound doctrine and refute false teaching

“He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.”

Leadership Philosophy: Servant Leadership

The Lead Pastor must embody and practice servant leadership as demonstrated by Jesus Christ.

Matthew 20:25–28 (NIV)

“...whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve...”

• Leads by serving, not by authority or control
• Actively engaged in ministry, not just oversight
• Demonstrates humility, sacrifice, and Christlike love
• Proven track record of serving within the local church

Biblical Qualifications (Non-Negotiable)

The Lead Pastor must meet all qualifications outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1–13 and Titus 1:7–9.

Character Requirements

• Above reproach (inside and outside the church)
• Faithful to their spouse
• Sober-minded and self-controlled
• Respectable and hospitable
• Gentle, not violent or quarrelsome
• Not greedy or a lover of money
• Upright, holy, and disciplined

Spiritual & Doctrinal Requirements

• Holds firmly to the Word of God
• Understands and lives out the Gospel (“clear conscience”)
• Able to teach sound doctrine effectively
• Able to correct and rebuke false teaching

Leadership & Life Requirements

• Manages his household well
• Not a recent convert
• Well respected by outsiders
• Demonstrates spiritual maturity and stability

Family Expectations

• Spouse must be:
• Dignified
• Sober-minded
• Faithful in all things
• Not slanderous

Primary Responsibilities

Preaching & Teaching

• Faithfully preach the full counsel of God’s Word
• Provide doctrinally sound, gospel-centered teaching
• Equip the church to grow in spiritual maturity

Vision & Leadership

• Provide spiritual direction aligned with Scripture
• Lead the church in fulfilling its mission
• Develop and mentor leaders within the church

Shepherding & Care

• Care for the spiritual health of the congregation
• Provide pastoral counseling and support
• Model Christlike love and accountability

Church Governance & Integrity

• Ensure all ministry aligns with biblical standards
• Guard the church from false doctrine and division
• Uphold integrity in leadership and decision-making

Education & Experience

• Formal theological education preferred (degree or equivalent experience)
• Proven experience in preaching, teaching, and church leadership
• Demonstrated ability to lead and disciple others

Calling & Commitment

The Lead Pastor must:

• Exhibit a clear calling from God into pastoral ministry
• Demonstrate a life fully submitted to Christ
• Show consistency between personal life, doctrine, and ministry

Final Expectation
