Job Description

Role Summary:


The Director of Children’s Ministries is a full-time leadership position responsible for the spiritual

formation of children from birth through 5th grade. This role leads the church’s efforts to disciple

children and equip families within the framework of the Global Methodist Church, the authority of

Scripture, rooted in historic Wesleyan theology, and the means of grace.


This person oversees all aspects of children’s ministry, with responsibilities for developing a cohesive,

engaging, and theologically faithful ministry across multiple Sunday worship services and weekly

programming.


Core Responsibilities:


Spiritual Leadership & Ministry Oversight


- Lead and oversee all children’s ministry programming (birth–5th grade), including Sunday

mornings, midweek gatherings, and seasonal events.

- Design and implement a unified Sunday morning strategy across three services (8:30, 9:45,

11:00), ensuring consistency in teaching, worship, and discipleship across differing worship

styles.

- Develop a Large Group/Small Group model that fosters both engaging worship and age-

appropriate biblical instruction.

- Ensure all teaching and curriculum reflect Wesleyan theology, the doctrines of the Global

Methodist Church, and faithful biblical interpretation.


Discipleship of Children & Families

- Provide Christ-centered discipleship pathways for children from birth through 5th grade.

- Develop a focused Upper Elementary ministry that deepens spiritual formation and prepares

students for student ministry.Sam Jones Methodist Church

- Equip and support parents as the primary spiritual leaders in their homes through

communication, resources, and intentional engagement.

- Serve as a presence for children and families, offering care, encouragement, and guidance.

Volunteer Leadership & Team Development

- Recruit, train, and shepherd volunteer teams for all children’s ministry environments.

- Build and manage rotating volunteer teams to serve across all Sunday services.

- Supervise nursery staff, interns, and any part-time children’s ministry employees.

- Ensure all volunteers are trained in safety procedures, spiritual expectations, and church

doctrine.


Curriculum & Teaching

- Select and implement biblically faithful curriculum aligned with Wesleyan theology and the

Global Methodist Church’s doctrinal standards.

- Adapt curriculum for multi-service use while maintaining consistency in theological content

and discipleship goals.

- Provide take-home resources to reinforce Sunday teaching within the home.

Programming & Events

- Plan and oversee all major children’s ministry events, including Vacation Bible School,

seasonal celebrations, retreats, and family discipleship events.

- Develop recurring discipleship rhythms such as weekly programming, monthly gatherings

(e.g., Club 345 or equivalent), and special spiritual formation opportunities.

- Create environments that are safe, engaging, and spiritually formative for children of all ages.


Operations & Administration

- Oversee check-in systems, attendance tracking, and classroom readiness for all services.

- Manage the children’s ministry budget with integrity and stewardship.

- Maintain clear communication through email, church platforms, and social media in

alignment with church values.

- Ensure all safety policies and procedures are current, implemented, and regularly reviewed.

- Attend worship planning, staff meetings, and maintain consistent office hours.

Church Integration & Environment

- Foster unity across differing worship styles (traditional and modern) by creating a consistent,

welcoming children’s ministry experience.

- Collaborate with church leadership to ensure children’s ministry aligns with the overall

mission and vision of the church.

- Maintain a ministry environment that is welcoming, Christ-centered, and accessible to

families of all backgrounds.


Additional Responsibilities

- Engage in the life of the church and community through presence at children’s activities,

school events, and family milestones.Sam Jones Methodist Church

- Participate in ongoing ministry training and connection with other Global Methodist and

Wesleyan leaders.

- Assist with fundraising initiatives for trips, events, and ministry development as needed.


Qualifications

- A mature Christian faith with a clear calling to children’s discipleship.

- Agreement with and commitment to the doctrine, discipline, and mission of the Global

Methodist Church.

- Strong understanding of Wesleyan theology and practice (means of grace, sanctification,

Scripture authority, etc.).

- Demonstrated ability in leadership, organization, and volunteer development.

- Strong interpersonal skills with children, parents, and volunteers.

- Ability to lead in a multi-service, multi-worship-style environment.

- Bachelor’s degree (preferred) or equivalent ministry experience.


Accountability Structure

- Reports directly to the Associate Pastor.

- Works closely with the Senior Pastor and church leadership team.

- Receives regular supervision, feedback, and an annual performance evaluation.
