Salary Range DOE: $55,000-$66,529 (salary/benefits package)

The United Church of Christ (Congregational) in Yankton, SD, is seeking a creative and collaborative leader to serve as our Director of Music, Faith Formation Education, and Social Media Communications. Our Open and Affirming congregation values meaningful worship, excellent music, developmental and lifelong learning, and community engagement. This unique position integrates Worship Leadership (50%), Christian Education (40%), and Social Media Communications (10%) to help cultivate an inclusive, intergenerational community rooted in the welcoming theology of the United Church of Christ.

Responsibilities:

Plan and lead music for weekly worship in collaboration with the pastor.

Direct the Chancel Choir (weekly rehearsals; Sunday worship, September–May).

Blend traditional hymns with contemporary worship music.

Develop and coordinate lifelong Faith Formation Education opportunities for children, youth, and adults. Recruit and manage volunteers. Oversee weekly youth faith formation classes.

Create and maintain weekly posts on social media, engaging the community via our virtual presence.

Music History:

While proficiency in organ and/or piano is preferred, we welcome candidates who bring other musical gifts and accompaniment styles. Our congregation has a long-standing reputation for musical excellence and regularly hosts special music events throughout the year. Our worship space includes a beautifully maintained 3-manual, 46-rank Salmen Organ Company organ and a 1919 Steinway Model O grand piano.

Qualifications Preferred:

Experience in church music leadership and choir direction.

Passion for Christian education and faith formation.

Strong communication and organizational skills.

Appreciation for the inclusive values and theology of the United Church of Christ.
