Help young children grow in faith and learning. First Baptist Church Americus Preschool is seeking a Christ-centered, nurturing, and dependable Preschool Teacher Assistant to support the classroom teacher with daily care, supervision, activities, routines, and age-appropriate learning in a safe and engaging environment. This part-time, hourly, non-exempt position is limited to a maximum of 25 hours per week and follows the preschool’s operating schedule and the needs of the assigned classroom.

About the Role

The Preschool Teacher Assistant serves within the church’s preschool ministry under the supervision of the Preschool Director and in support of the classroom teacher. This position assists with the daily care, supervision, and classroom support needs of young children while helping maintain a safe, orderly, nurturing, and Christ-centered learning environment. The Teacher Assistant works cooperatively with preschool staff, families, and church leadership to support the mission and ministry priorities of First Baptist Church Americus.

Reports to: Preschool Director; works in support of the assigned classroom teacher.

What You’ll Do

·       Support classroom instruction and care: Assist the classroom teacher with daily supervision, care, and support for children in ways that promote safety, learning, and healthy development. Help prepare materials, support activities and routines, and assist with transitions, meals, rest periods, toileting, and other age-appropriate care needs.

·       Maintain the classroom environment and teamwork: Maintain a clean, welcoming, and orderly classroom; work cooperatively with the classroom teacher, Preschool Director, and preschool staff; assist with classroom coverage and routine responsibilities, including opening, closing, lunch, and transition periods; and demonstrate flexibility in meeting classroom and preschool needs.

·       Support spiritual formation: Support age-appropriate integration of biblical truths, Christian character, prayer, Bible lessons, chapel, and faith-based learning into daily classroom activities, and assist with ministry-related activities that connect the preschool to the broader life of the church.

·       Partner with families: Maintain positive, respectful, and timely communication with families as directed by the classroom teacher or Preschool Director; help foster trusting relationships with parents and guardians; and represent the preschool and church with professionalism, warmth, and care.

·       Maintain compliance and safety: Follow all applicable health, safety, supervision, recordkeeping, licensing, church, and preschool requirements; maintain accurate attendance and operational documentation; and help implement emergency-preparedness and child-supervision procedures consistently.

·       Collaborate and communicate professionally: Keep the Preschool Director informed regarding administrative needs, schedules, classroom support assignments, parent communication, and daily operational matters; assist with preschool activities and family-engagement opportunities; participate in requested meetings and training; and communicate with professionalism, grace, dependability, and discretion.

·       Current CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain certification upon employment.

·       Successful completion of all required background checks and reference checks.

·       Demonstrated service, humility, teamwork, dependability, and care in relationships with children, families, staff, and church leaders.

·       Commitment to uphold confidentiality, professionalism, sound judgment, and a high standard of excellence in all preschool and ministry-related responsibilities.

Position Details

This is a part-time, hourly, non-exempt role limited to a maximum of 25 hours per week. Regular hours are based on the preschool’s operating schedule and the needs of the assigned classroom. Additional hours may occasionally be requested for staff meetings, training, parent events, or ministry-related activities, subject to approved scheduling and the 25-hour weekly maximum.

Hourly Wage: $10.00 per hour.

Paid Holidays: Paid holidays are provided.

Signing Bonus: A modest signing bonus is available.

Compensation: Compensation will be determined in accordance with church policy and budgetary guidelines.
