Job Description

Purpose and Primary Responsibilities

The Minister of Music is responsible to the Pastor for leading and developing the church’s music ministry. This person will work with the Pastor to plan worship services, encourage congregational singing, and help members use their musical gifts to serve the Lord and the church.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a born-again believer and an immersed Baptist with a growing faith in Jesus Christ and a heart for leading others in worship. He brings musical ability, experience leading worship or serving in a church music ministry, and a willingness to work with people of different ages and abilities. He is approachable, dependable, and teachable, and values ministry to people as much as musical preparation.

The candidate must meet the biblical and church qualifications in the church’s Constitution and By Laws, agree with its Articles of Faith, and transfer his membership to Ebenezer upon accepting the position.

  • Provide leadership for the choir ministry, coordinating rehearsals and participation as needed for worship services and special occasions, in keeping with the church’s ministry needs and available participants.
  • Enlist and encourage singers, musicians, and choir leaders; develop their abilities and coordinate the work of accompanists.
  • Care for those involved in the music ministry, support church activities, and serve on the Church Council. Work with the Music Committee and provide direction to the Church Communication Committee.
  • Oversee music materials and equipment, assist with the music budget, and arrange substitute music leadership when absent in accordance with church policy.

Skills and Abilities

  • Musical leadership: Able to lead congregational singing and prepare singers and musicians for worship.
  • Organization and communication: Plans ahead, communicates clearly, and works well with the Pastor, staff, and volunteers.
  • Servant leadership: Serves with humility, receives feedback, and encourages others with patience and a positive attitude.

This is a part-time position. Schedule, compensation, and expectations will be discussed during the search process and approved through the church’s calling procedures.
