English Ministry Pastor | Canaan Taiwanese Christian Church

Do you have a heart for shepherding God’s people in a vibrant, multicultural church? Canaan Church is seeking a full-time English Ministry Pastor who embodies both strong biblical teaching and relational leadership — someone eager to disciple, equip, and unite God’s people across generations for His Kingdom.

What you’ll be doing:

Lead and shepherd the English Ministry through preaching, teaching, mentoring, and building a healthy, disciple-making culture. Develop and equip lay leaders to share in the work of ministry, fostering a team-based approach to spiritual growth and congregational care.

• Shepherd and care for our congregation by providing pastoral care and counseling, and nurture your relationship with our congregation through visiting fellowships, families, and individuals.  
• Set and promote a vision for the growth and future of our English Ministry.
• Lead our English Leadership Team, comprised of elders and deacons, and encourage them to journey with you on achieving the English Ministry vision. Advise and help our English Leadership Team plan ministry programs. Provide oversight for Sunday School and fellowships.
• Act as a connector by crossing perceived cultural boundaries between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation Asian Americans and bridging the gap between them through the teachings of the Bible. Make strong connections across and attend to the church’s children, youth, and young adults to create a healthy, sustainable English Ministry. Canaan isn’t just “my parents’” church – it’s my church.
• Encourage our congregation to live a purposeful and impactful life rooted in God’s word.  
• Disciple individuals and staff members. Build a sustainable structure for discipleship and leadership formation. Identify future leaders and develop them along with established leaders, fulfilling the vision of disciple-making disciples.
• Preside over special occasions such as whole-church services, baptisms, weddings, and memorials.
• Work closely with the Senior Pastor and pastoral team to ensure alignment with Canaan Church’s overall vision and direction, ensuring and strengthening the unity of the church across ministries while preventing the English Ministry from becoming functionally siloed.
• Engage actively in church leadership meetings to promote unity and healthy collaboration across ministries.

It’s essential that you have:

• A shepherd’s heart to care for the sheep through deep, enduring relationships over years, ministering through each week and during evenings, as needed, for critical care situations.
• A vision of Canaan as more than a workplace, but as your family’s church home for the long haul.
• Excellent communication skills. Strength from the pulpit. Experience as an active listener. Fluency in English required.  
• A heart for evangelism and missions.
• A vision for God’s church.
• Strengths in leadership, administration, and interpersonal skills. 
• Ability and desire to disciple, train, and encourage your sheep.

Your background and experience:

• Called by God, with a gift and passion for shepherding young adults and families.
• Degree in Master of Divinity from an accredited institution
• Ideally, a minimum of five years of experience in pastoral ministry, preferably in an English ministry, in North America.  
• Experience in cross-cultural or multi-generational ministry is highly desirable.
• Workplace experience outside of the church is a plus. A history of long-term service as a deacon/elder is also valued.  

Time Commitment: This is a full-time exempt staff position, requiring flexibility to meet programmatic and seasonal needs. The English Ministry Pastor (and his/her spouse if married) is expected to take an active role in the life of Canaan and fully participate in church functions, including those happening outside of Sunday. This involves, but is not limited to, periodically visiting fellowships during weeknights, and scheduling time to meet with members to build relationships and for counseling.

Reports directly to the Senior Pastor and works in partnership with the Elders of the church, operating within Canaan’s overall mission, core values, and church governance structure.
